Xcel Energy has an opportunity for a long-term internship within the Operation Technology (OT) Converged Support organization. This unique internship will offer access to work with the Data Center Services - Compute and Converged Support. The successful candidate will gain insight and exposure to the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC)- Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) Compliance requirements and be able to support with proper documentation as well as evidence gathering. Over the course of 18 months (20-40 hours weekly), the intern will learn and work on specific requirements within the OT Converged Support Team. The intern will develop skills for OT area and CIP documentation for meeting compliance requirement and provide support with daily tasks and needs.


Typical intern responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
a) Develop skills for OT area and CIP documentation for meeting compliance requirements. (60%)
b) Be available to learn OT infrastructure and provide support as assigned. (30%)
c) Work with Team and assist with On-Prem ServiceNow (OP-SNOW) tickets assignment as per Change Management standards & guidelines. (5%)
d) Stay focused on existing assignments as well as be available to learn new process & procedures. (5%)


This position is for a May 31, 2027 start date. This position may have the possibility to extend beyond the internship's initial term based on the candidate's successful performance and Xcel Energy's business needs.

Minimum Requirements:
- Current student, Sophomore or higher (as of Fall 2027)
- Enrolled in an accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in computer science, management information systems, computer engineering, engineering, mathematics, analytics, or business.
- Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week)/ part time during the school year (up to 20 hours a week) and commuting to the designated work location in-person, per our hybrid work policy.

Preferred Qualifications:
The applicant must be energetic and competent, and willing to commit to a minimum of 18 months within the Xcel Energy Operation Technology (OT) Converged Support organization. The applicant's graduation date must not precede the completion date of the internship program
Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office suite applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)
Strong work ethic and initiative
Ability to work well in a team environment
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Must be able to prioritize tasks and has better organization skills
Any experiences with the following technologies would be desired: SharePoint, Windows, Linux, VMware, MS Office/Office 365
Project Management Experience
Interest in Security & Compliance, and Networking
