Senior IT Technical Writer – Cybersecurity & Operations Documentation

Location: Spartanburg, SC
Work Arrangement: Fully Onsite

Job Overview

Seeking a Senior IT Technical Writer to support a Cybersecurity Program and Documentation Recovery initiative. The role will focus on creating, organizing, standardizing, and maintaining technical documentation that improves IT operational readiness, resilience, incident response, and knowledge transfer.

The ideal candidate will work closely with IT leadership, Business Analysts, engineers, administrators, security professionals, and technical SMEs to translate complex technical processes into clear, accurate, and maintainable documentation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain SOPs, runbooks, operational procedures, system/application documentation, and knowledge articles.
  • Create documentation for cybersecurity, IT operations, infrastructure, incident response, disaster recovery, and business continuity.
  • Interview technical SMEs and convert complex technical information into clear documentation.
  • Create technical diagrams, workflows, and process maps using Microsoft Visio.
  • Use Microsoft 365, including Word, SharePoint, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.
  • Establish documentation standards, templates, naming conventions, metadata, version control, ownership, and review processes.
  • Collaborate with Business Analysts and technical teams to convert discovery findings, requirements, inventories, and process maps into finalized documentation.
  • Review documentation with SMEs, validate technical accuracy, incorporate feedback, and prepare materials for publication.
  • Support documentation recovery, knowledge management, and standardization initiatives.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Technical Communication, English, IT, Information Systems, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of technical writing experience in complex IT/technology environments.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Word and SharePoint, along with Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Visio.
  • Proven experience creating SOPs, runbooks, system documentation, operational procedures, and knowledge articles.
  • Strong editing, information architecture, document organization, and quality-control skills.
  • Ability to work directly with technical SMEs and translate complex concepts into clear, accurate documentation.
  • Excellent attention to detail and consistency.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with cybersecurity, infrastructure, incident response, disaster recovery, business continuity, or IT service management.
  • Experience with documentation recovery or large-scale documentation standardization.
  • Experience managing SharePoint documentation libraries, including metadata, templates, ownership, and lifecycle management.
  • Familiarity with ITIL, NIST, CIS, or similar frameworks.
  • Government, public-sector, or regulated-environment experience.
  • CPTC, ITIL Foundation, or related certification.
