Job description

Senior Technical Writer

Department: Engineering

Location: On-site at the Cobalt HQ in Champaign, IL (not a remote position)

Commitment: Full-Time

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Works with the technical staff to understand and document product operation.
  • Creates and updates product manuals, including screenshots, drawings, and diagrams. Candidate is expected to eventually learn how to operate the products with assistance from Engineering and document them.
  • Works with the marketing department to support their activities, including the following:
    • Maintenance of the Cobalt Digital website. This includes minor edits, corrections, and additions.
    • Preparation of marketing materials, such as brochures, product briefs, and print/online advertising.
  • Creates drawings and block diagrams to illustrate product operation.
  • Some minor image editing.
  • Optional but highly desirable: capable of taking and editing product photographs.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize between tasks with guidance from management.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Adobe FrameMaker, and image editing tools.
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in a technical field, or industry experience.
  • A minimum of 5 yearsโ€™ experience as a technical writer or copy editor in the electronics industry.
Additional Information

Preference will be given to local candidates in Champaign, IL. Cobalt is prepared to offer relocation assistance to the right candidate. Candidates must supply 3-5 writing samples. Preference will be given to candidates with previous experience in the broadcast or professional audio/video fields.
