Job Title: Maintenance Technical Support Engineer / Planner
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced and technically proficient Maintenance Technical Support Engineer / Planner to drive maintenance excellence, reliability, and planning within our industrial plant environment. In this role, you will work closely with maintenance leadership, engineering, and operations teams to develop maintenance processes, troubleshoot complex equipment failures, build repair strategies, and manage work schedules.
This is a critical, hands-on role for a professional who combines a strong technical background in instrumentation, controls, and mechanical/electrical systems with a deep commitment to safe and environmentally compliant work practices. You will champion predictive maintenance techniques, manage departmental budgets and projects, and mentor technicians to ensure the ongoing reliability of vital plant equipment. If you possess a solid foundation in heavy industrial maintenance and a passion for root-cause problem-solving, we want to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance Planning & Reliability Strategy
โ€ข Work Planning & Scheduling: Collaborate with plant leadership and operations teams to develop effective repair strategies, determine maintenance scope, and establish optimal schedules for equipment overhauls and daily upkeep.
โ€ข Predictive Maintenance: Utilize advanced predictive maintenance techniques-such as thermography, vibration analysis, ultrasound, and tribology-to monitor equipment health and prevent unexpected failures.
โ€ข Troubleshooting & Technical Resolution: Support operating departments in monitoring equipment performance, diagnosing abnormal operating conditions, and resolving complex technical issues across mechanical, electrical, and control systems.
โ€ข Capital & Budget Initiatives: Develop budget requests for equipment maintenance and capital improvements; submit project initiatives detailing scope, cost, and benefits, and oversee implementation upon approval.
Safety, Environmental & Compliance Oversight
โ€ข Safe Work Environment: Enforce rigorous safety rules and regulations; inspect active job sites, review maintenance procedures for hazards, and conduct thorough pre-job safety briefings.
โ€ข Environmental Stewardship: Prioritize the maintenance of environmental equipment and systems to ensure strict, uncompromised compliance with local, state, and federal environmental permits.
โ€ข Contractor & Craft Alignment: Communicate and reinforce safety and environmental compliance standards consistently with internal craft workers and external contractors.
Budget Control & Team Development
โ€ข Expense Tracking: Control and track department expenses to operate within fiscal targets; provide accurate monthly expense forecasts.
โ€ข Training & Evaluation: Train and evaluate personnel on proper tool usage, machinery maintenance, standard operating procedures, and safe work practices.
โ€ข Emergency Response: Participate in on-call rotations to respond to plant emergencies and operational issues outside of normal working hours.
Qualifications & Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
โ€ข Experience Baseline: Minimum of 4+ years of professional experience in maintenance, reliability, or a related engineering discipline obtained within a power plant, heavy industrial process environment, or military service.
โ€ข Technical Mastery:
oStrong technical background in industrial plant equipment and systems, with a solid foundation in Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) alongside mechanical/electrical understanding.
oProven ability to apply and interpret predictive maintenance tools (vibration analysis, thermography, etc.).
oWorking knowledge of maintenance management processes, work practices, and multi-discipline asset relationships.
โ€ข Core Competencies: Unwavering commitment to safety and environmental compliance; exceptional multi-project management capabilities; excellent communication skills across all organizational levels.
Preferred Attributes
โ€ข Formal training or hands-on experience in power plant operating departments or structured project management methodologies.
โ€ข Advanced background in computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and workflow optimization.
