Position Description
The Technical Services Intern supports the Financial Management Division's Technical Services team by assisting with business process improvement, technical documentation, data reporting, and system support activities. This position is not focused on accounting or finance operations. Instead, it provides hands-on experience in business analysis, technical writing, process documentation, reporting tools, and technology solutions that support division-wide operations. Work involves performing a wide range of administrative and technical office support work for the division. Employees at this level perform assignments following specific instructions and are subject to frequent review by the immediate supervisor.
General Intern Responsibilities-
  • Support assigned tasks and projects, ensuring timely and accurate completion in alignment with established deadlines.
  • Participate in team meetings, check-ins, and training sessions to strengthen communication and collaboration skills.
  • Create and maintain spreadsheets, databases, and other digital documents; conduct preliminary research and compile relevant data as needed.
  • Update standard operating procedures (SOPs) and training logs to ensure documentation reflects current practices.
  • Support project coordination by tracking milestones, deadlines, and follow-up actions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Technical Services Intern Responsibilities -
  • Assist with data analysis and visualization by supporting the creation of reports, dashboards, SQL queries, and Tableau visualizations to help inform business and technical decision making.
  • Support documentation and process analysis by helping develop and maintain business process documents, system requirements, SOPs, training materials, and workflow analyses.
  • Collaborate with the Technical Services team to understand user needs, participate in process improvement activities, and observe how technical requirements are translated into system functionality.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
Must be a student in high school or other educational institution or accepted into a college, university or educational institution.
Other Conditions:
  • Must be at least 16 years of age, a student currently enrolled in high school or any institution of higher education to include a trade/vocational school.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, etc. highly preferred.

Competencies:
  • Apply technical skills using systems such as Microsoft 365 (Teams, Planner, SharePoint, etc.), similar to PeopleSoft, Tableau, and SQL.
  • Perform data analysis and reporting tasks; advanced Excel skills are a plus.
  • Understand and apply core data analysis concepts to support team initiatives.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders.
  • Follow verbal and written instructions accurately.
  • Adhere to applicable safety standards, practices, and procedures.
  • Handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and integrity.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
  • Sedentary work: Lift up to 10 lbs at a time and occasionally carry files/small tools
  • Sitting - prolonged periods of time
  • Standing-prolonged periods of time
  • Repetitive Motion-substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
  • Close Visual Acuity-work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading
