Job description

Application Scientist (Analytical)

Make Every Analysis Count

Why This Role Matters
When a lab's LCMS method fails validation, a product launch gets delayed. When sample prep goes wrong, an entire batch of testing has to be repeated. At Filtrous, we don't just sell vials, filters, and consumables. We help analytical labs get reliable results. As our Application Scientist in Analytical Chemistry, you'll be the expert who develops validated methods, travels to customer sites to solve real instrument challenges, and creates the technical content that proves our products perform. Your work will directly impact laboratories running critical analyses in pharmaceutical QC, environmental testing, food safety, and industrial quality control.

What You'll Do
Develop Methods Customers Can Trust: Create and validate analytical methods on HPLC, LCMS, GCMS, and ICP-MS that meet USP, EPA, and FDA requirements. You'll give customers ready-to-use protocols instead of months of trial-and-error.
Be the Expert in the Field: Travel to customer sites to troubleshoot method failures, optimize sample preparation, and validate instrument performance. Your hands-on support turns frustrated analysts into loyal partners.
Solve the Sample Prep Problem: Many failed analyses start with bad sample prep. You'll develop and demonstrate optimized workflows using our filters, vials, and QuEChERS products that deliver clean, consistent samples.
Create Content that Sells: Author application notes, white papers, and method guides that demonstrate product value on real instruments. Your technical content becomes the proof that wins new customers.
Shape What We Build: Collaborate with R&D to ensure new consumables are compatible with major instrument platforms. Your field insights prevent costly product-market mismatches.
Arm the Sales Team: Provide technical demonstrations and answer the hard questions during customer engagements. Your expertise closes deals that sales alone cannot.

Problems You Will Solve
Customers Stuck in Trial-and-Error: Labs that buy Filtrous consumables get no validated, ready-to-use methods, so they lose months to trial-and-error before an analysis works, which delays their results and a customer's product launches.
Bad Sample Prep Wastes Whole Batches: Many customer analyses fail right at the sample preparation step, which forces entire batches of testing to be repeated and makes labs doubt that Filtrous filters, vials, and QuEChERS products deliver clean, consistent samples.
No On-Site Expert to Rescue Methods: When a customer's instrument method fails on site, there is no Filtrous specialist who can show up and fix it, so frustrated analysts are left stranded and at risk of taking their business elsewhere.
Thin Proof the Products Perform: Filtrous lacks the application notes, white papers, and real instrument data that prove its consumables work, leaving customers without independent evidence and the sales team unable to answer the hard technical questions needed to close deals.
New Products Risk Missing Instrument Fit: Consumables are being designed without enough field insight into how the major instrument platforms behave, creating the risk of launching products that don't match what customers' machines actually need.

How Success is Measured
Deliver 6+ validated methods and technical application notes per quarter across HPLC, LCMS, GCMS, or ICP-MS platforms
Achieve 90%+ customer satisfaction on field support visits and method validation projects
Reduce method-related support tickets by providing clear documentation and validated protocols
Contribute to new product launches with instrument-specific performance data

Why You'll Love It Here
At Filtrous, you're not stuck running the same QC method on repeat. You're a key player working closely with a small, collaborative team where your expertise directly impacts customers and products. You'll report directly to the Director of R&D, collaborate daily with sales, QC, and operations, and see your methods used by real labs solving real analytical challenges. You'll work across multiple instrument platforms, visit diverse laboratory environments, and build deep expertise that makes you invaluable. And as Filtrous grows, you'll grow with us: expanding into new analytical areas, mentoring future hires, and shaping our technical direction.

Who You Are
Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry or related field with extensive instrumentation experience (required)
Hands-on expert in method development and validation on LCMS, HPLC, GCMS, and/or ICP-MS
Deep understanding of chromatography, mass spectrometry, and sample preparation techniques
Regulatory savvy: familiar with USP, EPA, FDA method validation requirements
Strong communicator: you can explain complex analytical chemistry to both PhDs and technicians
Willing to travel: customer sites, method validations, and industry events
Bonus points if you have:
Experience with multiple instrument vendors (Agilent, Waters, Thermo, Shimadzu, PerkinElmer)
Background in pharmaceutical QC, environmental testing, or food safety analysis
Experience with heavy metals, pesticides, or residual solvent testing
Track record of published application notes or technical publications
