POSITION SUMMARYย ย ย ย 

As a global leader in the development of coated and laminated films and adhesives, Flexcon is looking for a Senior Lab Technician to join the New Product Development team at its headquarters in Spencer, Massachusetts.ย  The Senior Lab Technician performs tests and analyses in Flexconโ€™s Research and Development Test Laboratory.ย  The Senior Lab Technician provides support for Product Development scientists and engineers in the Research and Development team and other departments within the company.ย  Thorough understanding of all safety and testing procedures required.ย  Responsibilities include, but is not limited to, sample preparation and/or retrieval, performing necessary evaluation(s) of material based on defined requirements, equipment maintenance and quality control measures, and documenting clear and accurate records of lab testing results.ย  Follows safe work protocols and always maintains work area in a clean and orderly manner.ย  Senior Lab Technician work involves independent work, supports management of change projects, involvement in product development record labs (PDRs), trial observations and participation, potential interaction within the production teams, as well as mentoring new team members.ย 

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Two-year technical degree or associates degree and/or 3-5 years relevant work experience in a lab environment with a focus on analytical testing is required.ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย 
    • Well-organized with a strong teamwork attitude, working independently as well as within a diverse team is required.
    • Strong, proper communication skills are a must both in written and verbal form.ย 
    • Must be able to read and comprehend written instructions.
    • Math skills are essential and must demonstrate the ability to correctly analyze data/results and interpret outcomes of testing to propose appropriate follow-up with supervision.
    • Prepares high quality, detailed and accurate lab records.
    • Fluent in Microsoft Office Suite applications (primarily Excel, Word, and Teams) as well as experience with using electronic notebooks to log lab data is required.ย 
    • Must be able to perform fine motor functions, such as measuring material to 1/100 of an inch
    • Well versed in using and maintaining laboratory equipment for testing and assists with regulatory documentation.
    • Requires keen observation skills, good manual dexterity, and ability to work with chemicals (able to wear a face mask and adhere to chemical safety protocols).ย 

ย DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Successfully performs all the duties and responsibilities of Lab Technician.
    • Adheres to all pre-defined procedures and policies and references them accordingly to conduct standard testing.
    • Possesses the technical ability to assist in the design and execution of non-routine testing.
    • Writes and updates test methods and can write and publish trial reports and trial order fact sheets with chemist direction.
    • Requests lab samples and prepares sample materials according to procedures to test their properties.
    • Independently recommends tests to identify unknown samples and uses lab test methods to determine the root cause of material failures.
    • Can quantify acceptable performance range for a material and can make pass/fail decisions based on pre-established limits.ย  Proactively identifies potential problems and brings forth resolutions.
    • Produces clear and accurate records of test results with strong conclusions tied to the purpose of the testing.ย  Documents data in the electronic lab notebook.
    • Consistently communicates data-driven concerns to key stakeholders in a timely manner.
    • Performs ASTM literature searches to complete specification testing requests.
    • Ability to plan, prioritize, and execute daily tasks based upon workload while coordinating with teammates and addressing conflicts with management.
    • Participates as an observer on trials and provides observations to chemists to help guide decisions.
    • Works daily with confidential information.
    • Calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment to ensure high quality data is generated.ย  Troubleshooting of analytical instrumentation with support.
    • Identifies risks that are outside the circle and takes initiative to solve the problem either independently or in collaboration with others.
    • Other duties consistent with the general nature and focus of the position and/or the goals and objectives of the department may be assigned.

At Flexcon, we offer a comprehensive compensation and benefits package that includes base salary, healthcare coverage (medical, dental, and vision), life and disability insurance, 401(k) with company match, paid time off, wellness programs, and tuition assistance. Based on region, the expected hourly wage for this position is $21.63 - 35.00.ย The posted salary range is intended to provide a general idea of compensation.
