The Project Engineer will support Steel City Stamping product lines in our Athens, TN manufacturing facility. The role will contribute to the development, maintenance and improvement of manufacturing processes as required. This includes machine specifications, selection and installation, process design and optimization, cost estimation, fixture, and tooling procurement.

The work model for the role is: Onsite in Athens, TN (#LI-Onsite)

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Perform various engineering tasks involving such functions as analysis, design, development, test, installation, and service, while working from instructions, drawings, proposals, specifications, and other pertinent information.

  • Prepare specifications and related documents in accordance with requirements, established formats, and general instructions. Review and analyze a variety of engineering data, documents, and reports.

  • Responsible for attaining detailed quotations or designs, estimating the cost of fixtures, tools, and engineering requirements and preparation of Authorization For Expenditure (AFE) documents for project proposal and review.

  • Utilize lean manufacturing tools to streamline operations throughout the plant via changes in workstation layout, material handling or processing.

  • Additionally: Write area Standard Work and Engineering Procedures as required. Calculate manpower requirements, machine capacities, and perform forecast studies using JIT concepts. Develop and present materials / presentations to various levels of management. Support new product introduction. Work with production teams to Identify and resolve production related issues as required. Consult with other engineering groups to ensure that specified engineering criteria are suitable for the proposed application, and recommend revisions, as appropriate. Participate in the investigation of technical problems and the establishment of procedures and corrective actions to avoid recurrences.

Qualifications for the role:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (preferably Electrical or Mechanical) or related field

  • Six Sigma Background strongly preferred (Green Belt, Yellow Belt, etc.)

  • Industry relevant experience in stamping presses, or mechanical affiliated work is strongly preferred

  • 3 years or more years of experience supporting a mix of mechanical, electrical, project engineering, and/or manufacturing engineering; alternatively, a special combination of education and experience and/or demonstrated accomplishments

  • Duties require thorough understanding of standard engineering theories, concepts, principles and techniques as well as an ability to utilize engineering design software such as AutoCAD, ProE, and SolidWorks. Work is subject to general overview to ensure quality.

  • Ability to travel as needed (estimated 10% at peak times)

  • Candidates must already possess authorization to work for ABB in the US
