Job description

Technical Project Manager
Location: Logan, UT (Onsite Required)
Job Summary
The Technical Project Manager manages each phase of one or more development projects at a time to ensure that commitments are on time, on budget, within Cost of Goods targets, and with required features by following the Juniper Systems Product Development Processes.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Works closely with a Product Engineer and Product Manager to manage project expectations. The Technical Project Manager is expected to learn and understand the product being developed and become familiar with the development challenges of the product.
  • Ensures that project roles and responsibilities are well-defined and that project members understand what is expected of them and what they should expect from one another.
  • Leads the project planning activities, including oversight of the Product Development Process. The Technical Project Manager directs the creation, approval, and ongoing maintenance of the project plan.
  • Leads project tracking, problem management activities, and risk management. Proactively tracks project progress against commitments to identify and mitigate potential risks before they impact the project.
  • Communicates project status to project stakeholders. Project status includes schedule, budget, features/functionality, Cost of Goods, and risk status.
  • Leads the project team to identify cost saving opportunities, while still maintaining features and quality.
  • Proactively manages the project’s highest priority risks and issues.
  • Encourages and supports escalations. Establishes a project culture where escalations to resolve “stagnant” problems are viewed as good business, not as personal issues.
  • Ensures that scope creep is carefully managed. No features/functions are added/modified/deleted without being assessed through the change control process.
  • Identifies improvements to the project management processes and practices based on learned knowledge and experience. The Project Manager studies the lessons learned from previous projects and applies the most important lessons to the next project.

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience
  • Bachelor of Science degree in a technical field OR 4 years of directly relevant job experience managing technical development projects.
  • PMP certification preferred.
  • Must be familiar with project management tools and practices (Project Management Institute standard practices) such as Gantt charts, work breakdown structures, etc.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong organization and prioritization skills.
  • Results oriented.
  • Technical skills in mechanical, electrical, or software engineering
  • Experience with project management focused on product development of hardware and software products.
  • Experience with Agile development practices for software development.
Responsibility, Accountability, and Supervisory Responsibilities
Accountable for executing projects according to approved project plans. This individual may have some supervisory responsibility (typically fewer than 4 employees) OR is responsible for significant activities involving more than one department.
This position works closely with one or more Product Engineers and one or more Product Managers to direct project success related to one or more products. It is expected that this individual can communicate on a technical level with all engineering disciplines working on a project to help understand project progress and is willing to help where needed during the development phases.
The above statements describe the general nature and level of work being performed in this job function. This is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties, and indeed additional responsibilities may be assigned by Juniper Systems.
Juniper Systems, Inc. is an EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, veteran status, or any other status protected by law.
