Job description

The Simplot Company is a diverse, privately held global food and agriculture company headquartered in Boise, Idaho. We are a true farm-to-table company with an integrated portfolio including food processing and food brands, phosphate mining, fertilizer manufacturing, farming, ranching and cattle production, and other enterprises related to agriculture.
Summary
Incumbents in this position provide leadership and direction in the effective operation and maintenance of equipment and processes in a safe, environmentally sound and efficient manner in accordance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations. Supervise, schedule, evaluate, train, and motivate hourly personnel. Maintain high level of confidentiality. The incumbent is also expected to provide leadership in process, organizational, and personnel improvement efforts. He/she will also perform at a high level in positively relating to others and positively representing to others the views of his/her leadership. The incumbent will be a proactive maintenance and operations leader, identifying process and equipment vulnerabilities and creating plans to act upon findings. Develop and implement operating methods and procedures designed to eliminate operating problems and improve product quality. Revise production schedules and priorities as a result of equipment failure or operating problems. Provide technical expertise as well as project management discipline for new construction, expansion, and general capital improvements in a variety of plant operating areas. This position oversees the majority of the "Wet Side" of the facility which generally consists of the Ore Receiving/Storage, Ore Dewatering, Phosphoric Acid Plant, and Phosphoric Acid Tank Farm.
Key Responsibilities
  • Strengthen and improve safety in the workplace through compliance with rules and regulations, safety, inspections, and training. Participate in and support the CARE about safety program. Encourage others to participate through your support of the program and influence as a leader.
  • Ensure environmental compliance through knowledge of requirements, providing clear expectations and guidance, and maintaining a high level of accountability. Ensure compliance with sumps and pads program and coach operators and supervisors on best management practices as outlined by the Environmental Department.
  • Maintain good housekeeping standards and expectations.
  • Lead the Production Supervisors for the Area and serve as a liaison to maintenance management, communicating appropriate information to the appropriate level, including daily expectations and messages of routine nature.
  • Closely monitor execution of maintenance activities and ensure personnel (all disciplines/crafts) are working together to minimize downtime and maximize work effectiveness; flex resources and adjust plans to adapt to unforeseen conditions or circumstances.
  • Set example, sustain open communications, coach hourly and salaried employees, and provide training opportunities, set goals, conduct performance evaluations, remedy employee work issues.
  • Uphold respectful workplace policies, enforce work rules. Manage performance and disciplinary actions when necessary.
  • Maintain good lines of communication among departments, crews, and other supervisors.
  • Set good housekeeping expectations and maintain standards.
  • Support the production supervisors and serve as a liaison to maintenance management, communicating appropriate information to the appropriate level, including daily expectations and messages of routine nature.
  • Effectively encourage new and innovative ways of thinking at all levels.
  • Ensure personnel have access to the training and tools necessary to complete jobs safely and efficiently. Participate in new operator training meetings, walk throughs, and check-ins.
  • Ensure procedures are up to date in accordance with regulatory requirements and/or Don Plant programs/policies (depending on area specific requirements).
  • Assist in the development and execution of goals and expectations for the Production Department and cascade area specific expectations and goals down through the Team.
  • Demonstrate personal accountability and ownership, solicit input from others, and provide feedback at all levels.
  • Develop annual expense budgets and effectively manage to these plans and initiate appropriate action to mitigate variances.
  • Review and analyze the production, quality control, maintenance, and operational reports to determine causes of nonconformity with product specifications and operating or production problems.
  • Manage and be responsible for asset readiness, including workflow requirements, to achieve short-term, defined key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Assist with ongoing reliability efforts by identifying bad actors, participating in root cause analysis, and working with Maintenance and Engineering on elimination plans through the capital planning process.

Typical Education
  • Bachelor's Degree (B.A. or B.S.) from 4-year college/university preferred
  • Equivalent experience in Phosphate Operations will be considered

Relevant Experience
  • Experience in Phosphate operations leading both salaried and hourly personnel
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Excel, power point, word, outlook)
  • Strong motivational, organizational, interpersonal and communication skills are a must
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and understand the interrelations within an industrial facility
  • Strong understanding of area process and equipment
  • JDE and SAP experience preferred
  • Unionized workforce experience desired
  • Process improvement skills and the ability to teach and coach others preferred.

Other Information
Experience in the successful planning and execution of complex projects, programs, and/or initiatives. Demonstrated knowledge in preparing production plans, including detailed schedules and budgets. Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to work well with and communicate effectively with personnel in multiple departments. Knowledge of OSHA and/or MSHA regulations regarding employee safety.
