Technical Product Support Manager information

What does a Technical Product Support Manager do?

A Technical Product Support Manager oversees teams that assist customers with technical issues related to a company’s products. They are responsible for ensuring high-quality support, troubleshooting complex problems, and collaborating with product development teams to resolve recurring issues. Additionally, they analyze support metrics to improve customer satisfaction and often help develop training materials for both customers and support staff. Their role is crucial in maintaining product reliability and customer trust.

How does a Technical Product Support Manager typically collaborate with development and customer success teams to resolve complex product issues?

Technical Product Support Managers play a key role in bridging the gap between customers, support engineers, and product developers. When complex product issues arise, they coordinate with customer success teams to gather detailed feedback and ensure customer concerns are clearly understood. They also work closely with development teams to communicate technical problems, prioritize fixes, and follow up on progress. This collaborative approach helps ensure that issues are resolved efficiently and that product improvements align with customer needs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Technical Product Support Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Technical Product Support Manager, you need a solid background in technical troubleshooting, product knowledge, and leadership, often supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with CRM systems, ticketing tools like Zendesk or Salesforce, and ITIL certifications are typically required. Outstanding communication, conflict resolution, and team management skills help build trust with both customers and support teams. These competencies are vital for ensuring efficient issue resolution, high customer satisfaction, and smooth coordination between technical and non-technical stakeholders.

What is the difference between Technical Product Support Manager vs Technical Support Specialist?

Job description

We are the movers of the world and the makers of the future. We get up every day, roll up our sleeves, and build a better world-together. At Ford, we're all a part of something bigger than ourselves. Are you ready to change the way the world moves?

Do you believe modern technology platforms are essential to designing the vehicles of the future? We do! Transforming Product Development requires scalable, highly available platforms and software solutions that enable Ford engineers to design, develop, integrate, and release vehicle programs efficiently. That's where the Product Development Platform Operations team makes an impact. We build and operate cloud-native platforms and enterprise solutions using Infrastructure as Code, Configuration as Code, automated delivery, and modern DevOps practices.

We are seeking an experienced Technical Product Manager to support the design, delivery, modernization, and operational success of enterprise applications and services used across Product Development. In this role, you will work closely with product owners, architects, infrastructure teams, software engineers, and business stakeholders to define technical priorities and deliver secure, scalable, resilient, and customer-centered solutions.

This role requires strong technical depth in full stack engineering, cloud technologies, microservices architecture, API development, data integrations, and automated CI/CD delivery. Responsibilities include guiding the end-to-end technical lifecycle of Product Development capabilities-from requirements and solution design through delivery, production support, modernization, and continuous improvement. By combining technical acumen, product thinking, and a customer-centric mindset, you will help modernize core engineering and Product Lifecycle Management capabilities while maintaining high standards for performance, reliability, security, and maintainability.

We recognize that no one person will embody every single quality or skill listed below. If you are passionate about building and delivering modern technical products and have a strong foundation in cloud-native software engineering, enterprise platforms, and Product Development technology, we encourage you to apply.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline; equivalent relevant experience may be considered
  • Bachelor of Engineering preferred

Experience:

  • 10+ years of professional experience in enterprise application development, technical product delivery, software engineering, or related technology roles
  • Experience partnering with product owners, architects, infrastructure teams, security teams, and business stakeholders to deliver enterprise technology solutions
  • Demonstrated experience designing scalable, resilient, secure, and maintainable application architectures
  • Experience working in an Agile delivery environment and contributing to technical roadmaps, backlog prioritization, planning, and continuous improvement
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across development, infrastructure, security, and business teams

Required Technical Experience:

  • Strong hands-on experience with Java, J2EE, Spring Framework, Spring Boot, RESTful APIs, and service-oriented or microservices-based architectures
  • Strong hands-on experience with Python for backend development, automation, integrations, or data processing
  • Experience designing and implementing full stack applications, including modern front-end frameworks and backend services
  • Extensive experience with Google Cloud Platform, including cloud application design, deployment, security, networking, storage, and managed services
  • Experience developing and supporting CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Tekton, or similar technologies
  • Experience with source control, branching strategies, automated testing, code-quality tools, artifact repositories, and release-management practices
  • Strong experience with MongoDB, Oracle databases, and Elasticsearch or OpenSearch
  • Knowledge of containerization and orchestration technologies, including Docker and Kubernetes
  • Experience with cloud-native observability, including application logging, monitoring, alerting, and performance analysis
  • Strong understanding of secure software development practices, authentication and authorization patterns, API security, and enterprise security requirements
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code, configuration management, automated delivery, and modern DevOps operating practices

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience with Siemens Teamcenter, Teamcenter ITK, Teamcenter integrations, or Product Lifecycle Management application development
  • Familiarity with Product Lifecycle Management data models, engineering data, product structures, bill of materials management, workflows, and release processes
  • Experience supporting or integrating Dassault Systemes 3DEXPERIENCE and/or Teamcenter platforms
  • Experience using Infrastructure as Code and configuration-management tools, such as Terraform and Ansible
  • Experience working in a large-scale automotive, manufacturing, engineering, or product-development environment
  • Experience supporting modernization of legacy enterprise applications into cloud-native platforms and services
  • Familiarity with enterprise integration patterns, engineering systems, and Product Development business processes

You may not check every box, or your experience may look a little different from what we've outlined, but if you think you can bring value to Ford Motor Company, we encourage you to apply!

As an established global company, we offer the benefit of choice. You can choose what your Ford future will look like: will your story span the globe, or keep you close to home? Will your career be a deep dive into what you love, or a series of new teams and new skills? Will you be a leader, a changemaker, a technical expert, a culture builder...or all of the above? No matter what you choose, we offer a work life that works for you, including:

  • Immediate medical, dental, and prescription drug coverage
  • Flexible family care, parental leave, new parent ramp-up programs, subsidized back-up child care and more
  • Vehicle discount program for employees and family members, and management leases
  • Tuition assistance
  • Established and active employee resource groups
  • Paid time off for individual and team community service
  • A generous schedule of paid holidays, including the week between Christmas and New Year's Day
  • Paid time off and the option to purchase additional vacation time.
