Job Summary:
PGS Worldwide is seeking a Secret-Cleared Technical Writer in Elkridge, MD for a one-year contract role supporting Northrop Grumman. The Technical Writer will develop, edit, publish, and quality-review technical manual content for advanced Ground/Air Task-Oriented Radar military systems.
Responsibilities:
• Write, rewrite, and develop technical manual content for military radar systems.
• Create operating procedures, maintenance procedures, troubleshooting procedures, and preventive maintenance documentation.
• Research program documents, engineering sources, military specifications, and technical standards.
• Develop manual outlines and documentation for military end users.
• Author and publish materials in electronic, interactive, and structured formats such as HTML, XML, and SGML.
• Select and coordinate illustrative materials, including drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts.
• Conduct quality reviews of technical materials.
• Collaborate with task leads, writers, engineers, and instructors to deliver technical manuals at varying levels of detail.
Qualifications:
Required:
• Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline or related field; military operations and maintenance experience with radar, communications, electro-optics, networks, IT-based sensors, or related systems; or proven mechanical aptitude through relevant job experience.
• Active DoD Secret clearance required.
• U.S. citizenship required.
• 2+ years of technical writing experience using structured authoring applications such as Arbortext, IADS Viewer, or other XML authoring software tools.
• Experience tagging XML documents.
• Ability to comprehend military specifications; MIL-STD-40051 experience is a plus.
• MS Office proficiency.
• Adobe Acrobat proficiency.
• Confluence and JIRA experience.
• Ability to manage several tasks simultaneously.
• Strong attention to detail and organization skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work onsite in Elkridge, MD.
Preferred:
• 5+ years of technical writing experience with structured authoring tools.
• Knowledge of Simplified Technical English, ASD-STE 100.
• Expert knowledge of XML, SGML, HTML, S1000D, or DITA structured content standards.
• Experience developing operating procedures, maintenance procedures, troubleshooting procedures, and preventive maintenance content.
• Radar, sensor, military maintenance, mechanical systems, or mission-system documentation experience.
