Overview

The Learning & Development Specialist designs, delivers, and maintains effective training programs that support safety, compliance, and operational performance in a manufacturing environment. This role partners with leadership and subject matter experts to assess training needs, develop instructional content, and facilitate onboarding, technical, and leadership training.

The position manages the organization’s Learning Management System (LMS), ensuring accurate tracking, reporting, and accessibility across all shifts, while monitoring critical certification requirements. By applying adult learning principles and evaluating training effectiveness, the Learning & Development Specialist supports continuous improvement, standardized training processes, and scalable learning systems as the organization grows.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess organizational and departmental training needs in partnership with leadership and subject matter experts.
  • Design, develop, and deliver training programs aligned with business objectives and operational requirements.
  • Create instructional materials including facilitator guides, participant materials, job aids, e-learning content, and assessments.
  • Manage and oversee the day‑to‑day operation of the organization’s learning management system (LMS) to track employee progress and produce reports on training impact, ensuring system stability and proper access for diverse manufacturing shifts.
  • Apply adult learning principles and instructional design models to ensure effective knowledge transfer and retention.
  • Facilitate instructor‑led training sessions, workshops, onboarding programs, and skill development initiatives.
  • Support the development of technical, safety, compliance, and leadership training within a manufacturing environment.
  • Evaluate training effectiveness through feedback, assessments, and performance metrics; recommend continuous improvements.
  • Conduct comprehensive needs assessments through surveys, interviews, and performance data to identify learning priorities.
  • Maintain training documentation, records, and reporting in alignment with company standards and compliance requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to support workforce development and succession planning initiatives.
  • Support the integration of emerging learning technologies such as Virtual Reality (VR) or Augmented Reality (AR) for hands‑on equipment simulation.
  • Monitor expiration dates for critical safety and technical certifications, providing automated alerts to supervisors before lapses occur.
  • Assist in establishing standardized training processes and scalable learning systems as the organization grows.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Learning & Development or a related field.
  • Manufacturing or industrial environment experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in instructional design, including assessing training needs, designing, delivering, and evaluating training programs.
  • Experience applying adult learning principles, models, and best practices.
  • Strong facilitation and presentation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; experience with learning management systems (LMS) preferred.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
