Main Purpose of Job

This position is responsible for interpreting/translating English to/from Spanish to the Hispanic community. This employee is considered essential and must be available to report to work during an emergency or catastrophic event.\r\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.\r\nExperience: Six months of experience providing formal interpretation and translation services between English and a second language. Formal interpretation services may include documented work as a volunteer interpreter for a nonprofit, human service or faith-based organization.\r\nNotes:\r\n1.Candidates may substitute additional experience interpreting and translating between English and a second language on a year-for-year basis for the required education.\r\n2.Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer inLinguist or Language Capabilityclassifications orLinguist or Language Capability specialty codes in the Linguistic field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.\r\n

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

The selected candidate must be certified as a medical interpreter.\r\n

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should possess the following:\r\n\r\n\r\n Proficient Technical skills (google, Microsoft, Excel)\r\n Strong communications skills both written and oral\r\n Good time management skills\r\n\r\n\r\n

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.\r\n
