Job description

Who you'll be working with

Our Product team works at the intersection of business strategy, customer needs, technology, and delivery. We partner closely with our clients and Codal's Engineering, Architecture, Data/AI, Design, and Project Management teams to solve complex business and technology challenges.

As a Technical Principal Product Manager, you'll serve as a senior product leader across a selected portfolio of technically complex client accounts. You'll provide account and product oversight, strengthen executive relationships, guide complex engagements, and identify opportunities to expand the value Codal provides through technology, data, and AI. This role does not replace the Solution Architect or Engineering Lead. Instead, you'll bring enough technical depth to connect business objectives, product strategy, and technical decisions while ensuring teams remain focused on delivering measurable client outcomes.
*Note this role is open to candidates in the Chicagoland area and is not eligible for sponsorship.

What you'll be doing

Account Leadership & Client Partnership

  • Own product oversight for a selected portfolio of technically complex accounts, with accountability for client relationships, engagement health, technical direction, and growth.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor who can effectively bridge business, product, and technology stakeholders.
  • Proactively manage complex dependencies, technical risks, and escalations.

Technical Product Strategy & Delivery

  • Lead discovery and product strategy for engagements involving platform modernization, enterprise integrations, data, cloud, and AI-enabled solutions.
  • Partner closely with Engineering, Architecture, Data, and AI leaders to develop executable product and platform roadmaps.
  • Translate technical constraints, dependencies, and opportunities into clear product decisions and executive-level recommendations.
  • Provide oversight for complex, mission-critical programs without replacing the Engineering or Architecture lead.

Account Growth & Technical Solutioning

  • Identify expansion opportunities across platform modernization, integrations, data, AI, automation, scalability, and related capabilities.
  • Lead or support technical pre-sales and solutioning alongside Engineering and Architecture.
  • Connect evolving client technology needs with Codal's broader capabilities and future engagements.

Product & Technical Leadership

  • Mentor PMs working on technically complex engagements and strengthen their fluency across APIs, integrations, data flows, dependencies, and technical debt.
  • Partner across Product, Engineering, Data/AI, PMO, and Sales to evolve Codal's technical product capabilities and AI/data offerings.

What you'll need to be successful (Requirements)

  • MUST have significant client-facing experience.
  • Eight (8)+ years of relevant Product or Technical Product Management experience, with at least five (5) years spent in consulting, professional services, or a similar client-facing environment.
  • Experience leading large-scale, technically complex digital transformation and software engagements.
  • Experience overseeing strategic client accounts and maintaining relationships with senior business and technology stakeholders.
  • Strong working knowledge of modern application architecture, APIs, enterprise integrations, cloud platforms, data ecosystems, and AI-enabled solutions.
  • Ability to understand system architectures and technical dependencies and translate them into product strategy, priorities, and business implications.
  • Experience partnering closely with Engineering Leads, Solution Architects, Data/AI teams, DevOps, and other technical disciplines.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify technically driven account growth opportunities and translate them into new engagements.
  • Experience navigating complex systems involving multiple platforms, integrations, third-party vendors, data sources, or legacy technologies.
  • Experience mentoring, coaching, or managing Product Managers.
  • Strong executive communication and facilitation skills, including the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical thinking, judgment, negotiation, and influencing skills.
  • Willingness to remain hands-on and step into the details when an engagement or team requires it.

Bonus Points for these (Preferred Experience)

  • Experience delivering AI/GenAI products, including practical applications of LLMs, RAG, intelligent automation, or AI-enabled workflows.
  • Experience with enterprise data platforms, analytics, data pipelines, and cloud-based architectures.
  • Experience with large-scale application modernization and complex enterprise system integrations.
  • Experience in healthcare, financial services, or other complex and regulated industries.
  • Experience expanding strategic accounts across multiple technical engagements or service offerings.
  • Experience working with global or distributed engineering teams.
  • Technical background earlier in your career, such as software engineering, architecture, data, QA, business analysis, or other technology-focused roles.
  • CSPO, Pragmatic, PMP, cloud, or related certifications.
  • Jira/Confluence and Google Workspace experience.
