Position Summary:
The Technical Field Service Engineer is responsible for all aspects of installing, maintaining, and repairing Fujirebio manufactured instrumentation. This individual supports the sales team by ensuring a high level of service to the customer, as well as training the customer in the proper use and operation of Fujirebio manufactured instrumentation. This individual will also support all functional groups within FDI in the maintenance and repair of Fujirebio manufactured instrumentation installed both on site and at external clinical study sites.
This is a 100% remote position requiring nationwide travel with a primary focus on the Western United States. Proximity to a major airport is strongly preferred.
Essential Job Functions:
  • Inspects, services, calibrates and repairs Fujirebio manufactured instrumentation at customer laboratory sites, as well as at both internal and external clinical study sites
  • Troubleshoots and diagnoses technical problems and issues in a timely manner; determines technical solution in accordance with product and manufacturer specifications
  • Ensures that all mandated technical changes and system software upgrades to Fujirebio manufactured instrumentation at customer laboratory sites and external clinical study sites are timely and accurately implemented
  • Supports sales activities by providing technical expertise and product knowledge including site surveys, managing customer installation and training
  • Documents customer inquiries/complaints, support events, and work performed using established quality system procedures
  • Provides emergency service, as necessary
  • Repairs equipment to eliminate problems in a timely manner
  • Trains personnel at customer laboratory in the operation of Fujirebio manufactured instrumentation and assays
  • Manages service parts inventory in accordance with established requirements
  • Follows all company environmental, health and safety policies, procedures and guidelines, and conducts work in a safe manner
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Job Specifications (skills, knowledge, special training, certification, license requirements):
  • Immunoassay knowledge preferred but not required
  • Working knowledge of various troubleshooting/analysis tools (Macros, Data Acquisition, etc.)
  • Ability to accurately diagnose hardware, software, and application issues
  • Computer literacy is required: including Microsoft Office suite, Windows Operating Systems, Salesforce CRM, etc.
  • Proficient use of diagnostic instrumentation and equipment such as immunoassay and clinical chemistry analyzers, laboratory automation equipment, manual pipettes, etc.
  • Demonstrates ability to troubleshoot and repair complex electronic, mechanical, fluidic, and online interface systems
  • Demonstrates excellent communication skills with customers
  • Ability to read and comprehend schematics, functional block diagrams, and fluidic diagrams
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills throughout multiple departments within the organization
  • Effective time management skills
  • Excellent organizational skills required
  • Ability to effectively and professionally work and interact with external laboratory sites
  • Ability to work with hand tools and required instrumentation including diagnostic test equipment such as digital multimeters and oscilloscopes
  • Ability to work with hazardous materials
  • Manual dexterity and ability to perform visual inspections
  • Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 100 lbs.; may need to move wheeled crates weighing 800 lbs.
  • Ability to drive - valid driver's license required
  • Willingness to travel up to 75%, including local area and nationally, on a scheduled and non-scheduled basis, including occasional weekends and holidays
  • Passport preferred for international travel (international travel is extremely rare in this position)
  • Ability to work overtime as required

Education and Work Experience Required:
  • Associate's degree in Engineering Technology or Biomedical Equipment Technology or equivalent experience required; B.S. or B.A degree in a related discipline preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years of related experience in the IVD industry preferred
  • Prior experience with laboratory instrumentation or medical device manufacturing is required

The base salary range for this position is $97,000- $115,000/year. The actual base pay offered may vary depending on multiple factors, including job-related knowledge/skills, experience, business needs, geographical location, and internal equity.
