Job Summary:
The Drafting Engineer will prepare engineering drawings for architectural millwork projects using AutoCAD, and/or SolidWorks.  This role will rely on, develop and leverage experience around practical mechanical understanding, including how parts are fabricated, installed, adjusted, fastened and fit together with a focus on the wood / millwork industry.
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Have a general, practical understanding of how parts are fabricated, installed, adjusted, fastened and fit together – all with a central focus on the wood / millwork industry
  • Uses computer-aided drafting (CAD) software to create full-scale and detailed designs of buildings and interiors from an architect’s rough drawings.
  • Draws plans for foundations, buildings, and structures based on instructions provided by engineers and architects.
  • Coordinates with Project Managers to review types of materials needed and calculates the quantity to be ordered.
  • Prepares routine detail engineering drawings, in either 2D or 3D from given data such as previous drawings, layouts, detailed sketches, and standard references.
  • Perform quality checks and reviews of drawings created by others.
  • Prepare as-built drawings and plans to support new capital work.
  • Assist in design utilizing standards to update existing plan and profile drawings.
  • Produce engineering drawings for dimensional accuracy, fit (including tolerance build up), and conformity to drafting and design standards and specifications.
  • Revises CAD and/or hand drawn "board" drawings, working from instructions, marked prints, sketches, change notices, prepared by others.
  • Support LEED project documentation and reporting requests. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Excellent mechanical aptitude, including the ability to read blueprints, shop drawings, sketches, redlines, field measurements, vendor documentation and mechanical drawings
  • Knowledge of dimensions, tolerances, clearances, fasteners, materials and fabrication practices
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Strong knowledge of CAD software and other architectural drafting tools, including conformity to drafting standards
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Education and Experience:
  • Associate’s degree, technical certificate or equivalent hands-on experience in drafting required.
  • Three years of related experience preferred.
  • Experiences in millwork, manufacturing, millwright work, fabrication, machine shops, custom production or mechanical design is ideal.
