POSITION OVERVIEW:
Startec Compression & Process is currently recruiting for a Managed Products Technical Coordinator to work at our Shepard Office (9423 Shepard Rd SE, Calgary, AB, T2C 4R6)
Reporting to the Project Engineering/Technologist Lead (Managed Products), the Managed Products Technical Coordinator will support fabrication focused projects by coordinating engineered drawing packages, material procurement, fabrication support, technical documentation, shop testing activities, and overall project execution.
Projects may involve internally developed engineering packages or customer supplied engineered designs where Startec’s scope primarily focuses on fabrication, assembly, testing, and delivery execution. The Managed Products Technical Coordinator works closely with engineering, procurement, fabrication, QA/QC, vendors, project management, customers, and the Startec Mechanical/Pressure Vessel group to support successful project delivery through all stages of shop execution.
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPI):
TECHNICAL DOCUMENTATION & DRAWING COORDINATION (Weighting 30%)
  • Review and interpret multidisciplinary drawing packages including:
    • Structural drawings & Building drawings
    • Equipment drawings (compressors, pumps, engines, air coolers, pressure vessels, etc.)
    • Piping isometric drawings & Piping specifications
    • Electrical drawings
    • P&IDs & Line lists and line class documentation
  • Utilize Navisworks to review and navigate 3D models for fabrication planning and constructability review
  • Review fabrication drawings to ensure all required fabrication details and information are complete prior to release
  • Perform drawing markups and technical reviews
  • Support document management activities including releasing and tracking drawings and technical documentation through document control systems
  • Create and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) and mange BOM revision throughout project execution
  • Maintain strong revision control practices to ensure fabrication and procurement activities align with latest project documentation
  • Coordinate drawing revisions, markups, and technical clarification between Engineering, Fabrication, QA/QC, Vendors, and Customers
  • Act as technical support for fabrication and assembly teams during project execution
MATERIALS MANAGEMENT & PROCUREMENT COORDINATION (Weighting 25%)
  • Coordinate sourcing and procurement of project materials including:
    • Piping & Rotating equipment
    • Instrumentation & tube/tube fittings
    • Electrical components & Electrical heat tracing materials
    • Junction boxes & Insulation materials
  • Ensure purchased materials comply with Approved Manufacturer Lists (AML) and customer approved vendor requirements
  • Identify and evaluate acceptable material substitutions to support project schedules while maintaining compliance with project specifications
  • Coordinate procurement of insulation materials in accordance with fabrication schedules and project requirements
  • Maintain and update material information within ERP systems and properly release purchase requisitions to Supply Chain
  • Track procurement status and material deliveries to support fabrication schedules
  • Coordinate with vendors to ensure timely delivery of materials and resolve technical or commercial discrepancies
  • Develop familiarity with tubing systems and tube fitting components to support accurate material ordering and fabrication requirements
  • Review material specification and project documentation to ensure procurement aligns with fabrication and project requirements
  • Work closely with the Startec Mechanical/Pressure Vessel group to coordinate technical requirements and support project execution
FABRICATION, QA/QC & SHOP SUPPORT (Weighting 20%)
  • Conduct regular shop visits to monitor fabrication progress and support issues resolution
  • Provide technical support to fabrication and assembly teams during project execution
  • Work closely with QA/QC, Fabrication, and Project teams to ensure compliance with project requirements
  • Participate in final equipment and package walkthroughs following fabrication and assembly completion
  • Coordinate and document punch list items identified during final inspections
  • Support mechanical completion and turnover activities by ensuring fabrication and testing documentation is complete and accurate
  • Coordinate technical communication between Fabrication, QA/QC, Project Manager, Vendors, and Customers
SHOP TESTING & COMPLETION SUPPORT (Weighting 15%)
  • Support shop testing activities including Hydrostatic testing, Pneumatic testing, Electrical continuity checks, and Mechanical completion verification
  • Assist with preparation and coordination of pneumatic and hydro test packages
  • Develop pneumatic test packages including P&ID markups, Test boundary identification, Test segmentation and volume breakdowns, and Stored energy calculations
  • Coordinate testing documentation and support QA/QC verification requirements
  • Review testing requirements against project specifications and drawing packages
  • Support turnover and completion documentation associated with fabrication and testing activities
PROJECT COORDIANTION & COMMUNICATION (Weighting 10%)
  • Support fabrication execution schedules by ensuring materials and documentation are available on time
  • Monitor procurement status and communicate schedule or cost impacts to Project Management
  • Validate purchased equipment and materials align with project budgets
  • Coordinate between Engineering, Procurement, Fabrication, QA/QC, Project Management, Vendors and Customers to support project execution
  • Participate in project meeting and provide updates related to fabrication progress, procurement status, testing activities, and technical issues
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology or related technical discipline; or Journeyman trade certification with relevant industrial fabrication or construction experience
  • Candidates with strong shop, fabrication, instrumentation, piping, or construction backgrounds looking to transition into a technical office environment are encouraged to apply
  • Strong ability to read and interpret engineering and fabrication drawings
  • Familiarity with piping systems, tubing systems, fabrication processes, material coordination, document management and revision control
  • Experience with Navisworks, Bluebeam, ERP systems, Document control systems, and Microsoft Office applications is considered an asset
  • Understanding of QA/QC processes, fabrication execution, BOM management, and shop testing activities is considered an asset
  • Strong organizational, communication, and coordination skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast paced, team orientation fabrication environment
  • Detail orientated with strong problem solving and time management skills
  • Customer focused with the ability to coordinate effectively with internal and external stakeholder
