Job description

  • Develop strong relationships with all suppliers, with an emphasis on strategic partners for core raw materials.  Regular in-person and virtual meetings with suppliers will be important.
  • Develop secondary and tertiary suppliers for key raw materials.
  • Deliver cost savings for direct material spend in chemical raw material categories.
  • Provide leadership in spend analysis and overall sourcing strategy in order to drive profitable growth.
  • Ability to adjust supply strategy depending on sole sources, competitive sources and leveraged spend.
  • Provide cost savings leadership in the development of Request for Quote (RFQ) and Request for Proposal (RFP) packages. 
  • Coordinates with the Quality Dept, Technical Dept, other Departments as needed to ensure accurate RFQ, RFP package.
  • Develop an understanding of the Synsus manufacturing process, in order to know what key raw material levers are important to improve profitability of the company
  • Develops, publishes and maintains Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) for all areas of assigned purchased commodities and services, to include cost savings, vendor scorecards, inventory management
  • Supports supplier selection processes using data around performance trends, spend history, lead times, business requirements, KPIs.
  • Contributes ideas and analysis to supervisor to develop procurement strategy and cost saving initiatives.
  • Performs supplier and market research from a variety of sources.
  • Hire, Train and Manage the purchasing teams’ day-to-day deliverables and ensure expectations can be met accordingly 
  • Develop skill sets and abilities of each team member through mentoring, technical and business training, and challenging assignments that build confidence and allow the team to make significant contributions to the operation.
  • Ability to travel to out-of-state facilities, supplier locations, as well as industry trade shows.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required.
  • Minimum of 5 year purchasing experience
  • B.S., B.A. Degree in Business, Finance, Supply Chain or applicable discipline
  • CPIM, CSCP, CPM or equivalent Purchasing Supply Chain Certification preferred
  • Flexibility and adaptability to a fast-paced, varied product mix environment
  • Fertilizer or crop protection industry procurement background that includes industry familiarity and understanding of applicable raw materials
