Description:

JOB SUMMARY

The Production Technician – Wiring Harnesses and Modification Kits performs skilled, hands-on work in GMRE’s production work center. The technician fabricates aerospace wiring harnesses and assembles modification kits in accordance with released technical data, work instructions, and quality requirements. This is a mid-level position expected to work with limited supervision, maintain accurate production records, verify the quality of completed work, and promptly report discrepancies or unclear requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Review and follow current engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, wire lists, bills of material, work cards, travelers, process instructions, and applicable change documentation before and during production.
  • Fabricate wiring harnesses by measuring, cutting, stripping, marking, terminating, crimping, splicing, shielding, sleeving, applying heat-shrink, assembling connectors and back shells, routing, and bundling wire as specified.
  • Use waxed lacing cord or other approved securing methods to produce neat, serviceable harness assemblies that conform to applicable workmanship criteria.
  • Perform soldering or other special processes only when required by the technical data and when trained, qualified, and authorized to do so.
  • Assemble modification kits in accordance with controlled bills of material and work instructions, including staging, counting, identifying, bagging, labeling, protecting, and packaging components.
  • Verify part numbers, quantities, configuration, condition, and required traceability; identify and segregate incorrect, damaged, expired, or nonconforming material.
  • Select and use the correct hand tools, calibrated crimping tools, insertion and removal tools, wire-processing equipment, and test equipment; complete required pre-use checks and maintain tool accountability.
  • Perform authorized in-process inspections, visual workmanship checks, and continuity or point-to-point testing, and correct discrepancies within the technician’s training and authority.
  • Follow GMRE quality procedures and applicable requirements for foreign object damage prevention, electrostatic-discharge protection, shelf-life control, material handling, and configuration control.
  • Complete production travelers, inspection records, material transactions, and labor entries accurately and as the work is performed, including entries in GMRE COMS or other assigned systems.
  • Stop work and seek clarification when technical data are missing, conflicting, unclear, or appear incorrect; do not make unauthorized substitutions, repairs, or configuration changes.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area and support established work-center priorities, schedules, and housekeeping requirements.
  • Coordinate with production leads, Quality, Manufacturing, Planning, and other functions to resolve routine production issues and support continuous improvement.
  • ASSIST WITH PEER TRAINING AND CROSS-TRAINING WHEN REQUESTED; THIS ASSISTANCE DOES NOT INCLUDE FORMAL SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY.

Requirements:

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, wire lists, bills of material, work instructions, and other controlled technical data.
  • Working knowledge of aerospace or comparable high-reliability wire-harness fabrication, connector assembly, crimping, wire preparation, and routing practices.
  • Ability to use precision hand tools, calibrated production tools, and basic electrical test equipment safely and correctly.
  • Strong attention to detail and the discipline to perform work exactly as specified without undocumented deviation.
  • Ability to recognize and clearly communicate material, documentation, tooling, quality, and configuration discrepancies.
  • Ability to work independently within assigned authority, manage multiple work orders, meet production schedules, and coordinate effectively with a team.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and learn or use GMRE COMS and related production software.
  • Reliable attendance, punctuality, professional conduct, and commitment to safety and quality.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • At least two years of relevant experience in aerospace manufacturing, electrical or electronic assembly, wiring-harness fabrication, aircraft modification, or a closely related production environment required.
  • Relevant military technical training, vocational education, or an equivalent combination of education and hands-on experience may be considered.
  • Training or certification in IPC/WHMA-A-620, J-STD-001, or comparable aerospace workmanship standards is preferred but not required.
  • Experience working within an AS9100 or similarly controlled quality-management system is preferred.

SECURITY CLEARANCE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret security clearance and be subject to a government security investigation.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods while performing stockroom, tool-control, computer, and material-handling duties.
  • Ability to reach, bend, stoop, kneel, and safely access assigned storage locations.
  • Ability to read labels and small part markings and distinguish material and status identification as required for the work.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds at times, with or without reasonable accommodation, and to use carts or other approved material-handling aids.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment and follow work-center safety requirements.

TRAVEL REQUIRED

  • No routine travel is expected. Limited local travel may be assigned with approval.
