Research Compliance Coordinator

Position Summary
The Research Compliance Coordinator is responsible for ensuring compliance with federal and state research regulations, institutional policies, and best practices. This position provides specialized regulatory expertise and administrative support to the UIW research community in support of several research compliance areas, including, but not limited to: protecting human subjects in research; managing conflicts of interest in research; training in the responsible conduct of research; and education in research ethics and research compliance. The Research Compliance Coordinator reports to the Director of Research Operations.

Compliance Administration
Description of Job Duties
  • Assists faculty, staff, and students in the preparation of IRB applications, forms, and related documents.
  • Thoroughly screens all applications and related documents submitted to the IRB to determine completeness and consistency with federal regulations, state laws, and institutional policies.
  • Maintains filing systems and databases ensuring all documentation and study files are complete.
  • Coordinates committee meetings, to include compiling meeting agendas, taking meeting minutes, recording meeting actions, disseminating meeting packets, and assisting with maintaining meeting quorum rules.
  • Verifies that all supporting documentation is obtained for research approval, including education requirements and required documentation for external collaborators.
  • Communicates committee actions and requests to Principal Investigators and drafts correspondence in a clear, organized, and concise manner.
  • Participates in regular quality assurance initiatives and conducts audit and monitoring activities.
  • Develops or assists with reports as requested.
  • Contributes to the development of efficient systems and procedures to enhance research activity.

Description of Job Duties
  • Assists with the delivery of training, outreach and communications to facilitate research compliance, foster a culture of research integrity, and provide regulatory guidance to the UIW research community.
  • Serves as liaison between the research compliance committees, investigators, and collaborating institutions; provides consultation and guidance to facilitate ethical and regulatory conduct of research.
  • Participates in meetings, conferences, and trainings relevant to research compliance and integrity.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, high ethical standards, and compliance with applicable laws, policies, and regulations.
  • Ability to organize work effectively, prioritize objectives, focus on details and outcomes, and exercise independent judgement based on an understanding of policies and procedures.
  • Ability to learn web-based application management systems.
  • Expertise in using office software packages, technology, and systems, including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
  • Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.

Required Education
Bachelor's Degree in Life Sciences, Social Sciences, Public or Business Administration, or other applicable research-intensive discipline.
Required Work Experience
Two (2) years of experience in a professional setting focused on research administration, clinical research, or research compliance with human subjects.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree.
  • Relevant experience in a university or government setting and familiarity with human subject research compliance issues.
