GENERAL FUNCTION:

In collaboration with division/LOB leadership, and/or cross-functional bank partners, the Communications Manager oversees the strategic messaging, writing, staging and delivery of communications. Creates and distributes clear, compelling, consistent, and accurate content and communications. Builds credibility as a trusted partner through a balance of business acumen, effective communication, project management, and client relationships. Manages communication consultation, planning, implementation, and recommends communications solutions.

Provides strategic counsel and oversight of division/LOB communications. Works closely with division executives and leadership to ensure communications are strategically executed. Responsible for and serves as the centralized staging leader of communications to ensure an integrated, well-coordinated approach from LOB/Division to all audience groups and across all vehicles. Collaborates with other communicators across the Bank to create cohesive messaging and support to the division.

Responsible and accountable for risk by openly exchanging ideas and opinions, elevating concerns, and personally following policies and procedures as defined. Accountable for always doing the right thing for customers and colleagues, and ensures that actions and behaviors drive a positive customer experience. While operating within the Bank's risk appetite, achieves results by consistently identifying, assessing, managing, monitoring, and reporting risks of all types.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Raises awareness of strategic initiatives by managing and implementing communication plans assuring that clear, consistent, and accurate messages are provided to appropriate audiences.

  • Determines key messages for audience groups to ensure an integrated, well-coordinated approach for all communication elements. Monitors messaging related to content, volume of messages, and brand.

  • Supports communications coordination among multiple, simultaneous initiatives and vehicles.

  • Manages relationships with functional leaders, content owners to ensure timely, accurate and strategic communications.

  • Ensures all content is consistent with our Brand, Vision, Purpose and Value.

  • Proposition and materials delivered are of superior quality with a common "look and feel" while meeting brand guidelines.

  • Produces communications vehicles in various formats (newsletters, emails, mailers, intranet, HR Hub, text, video, etc). Ensures information is timely, accurate and appropriate for all audiences.

  • Edits and proofreads content for clients, as requested.

  • Creates an overall communications strategy to support LOB/Division strategic initiatives, core processes and key projects. Partners with senior leaders to develop and execute communication strategies.

  • Provides strategic communications counsel to clients. Serves as a trusted advisor to clients.

  • Audits and tracks the communication strategies used to ensure they meet the needs of employees and remain relevant based on the changing dynamics of how people and organizations communicate.

  • Acquires the input and resources of other communications staff in the organization, to fulfill the objectives of communication plans and projects.

  • Uses and integrates PACE approval methodology to ensure compliance and expediency for communication approvals.

  • Works with LOB/Division executive to effectively present the bank's and his/her perspective through strategic communications. Helps build and maintain executive's personal brand and reputation.

  • Provides consulting activity from verbal advice to creation of formalized, customized communication materials/presentations for key programs or projects.

  • Responsible for oversight of delivery calendar including proactively managing the volume of initiatives being delivered to partners, managers, and employees.

  • Ensures maintenance of all distribution vehicles.

  • Ensures accuracy of all published content in all delivery vehicles.

  • Develops strategic partnerships with leaders to understand business strategy. Prepares and presents analysis of current state along with recommendations for innovative communication solutions to LOB/Division executive and leaders.

  • Integrates awareness of communications and projects across centers of excellence.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide guidance, mentoring and training to more junior staff, but has no formal supervisory responsibility.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, or public relations.

  • Five to eight years communications experience.

  • Excellent, writing, editorial, and research skills, with demonstrated ability to communicate complex or technical information effectively.

  • Adept in understanding and usage of multi-media communications including video. Web content management and basic design skills a plus.

  • Ability to understand and conceptualize specific ideas and theories.

  • Must be able to exercise sound judgment independently.

  • Must have the ability to handle conflicts and successfully manage multiple projects concurrently.

  • Proficient in applications such as O365, Teams, Stream, Excel, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, WebEx, PoliteMail, etc.

  • Proven experience with issues management.

  • Excellent project management skills. Ability to translate strategies into specific goals, tactics, action plans and deliverables; actively monitors execution plan to ensure goals are met.

  • Possesses strong leadership presence; proven ability to consult with multiple levels of management across the organization.

  • Significant experience in managing multiple, complex projects, with proven track record for results.

  • Self-motivated with excellent business acumen and strategic thinking skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to identify and realize new opportunities.

  • Banking experience preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Normal office environment with little exposure to dust, noise, temperature and the like.

  • Extended viewing of CRT screen.

  • High level of concentration.
