Overview
TRC is seeking an experienced Technical Advisor for an immediate hire in a long-term full-time position to support the fabrication, erection and other related duties for a complex cable stayed bridge project for the Maryland State Highway Administration. This staff augmentation consulting role will primarily focus on performing quality assurance activities in the areas of welding, bolting, coatings, materials testing and other related areas required within the scope of the overall project.
The candidate must possess significant experience in a Quality Assurance or Quality Control role in welding inspection, mechanical testing structural steel fabrication and application of coatings on metal and other substrates.
The majority of the work performed will be in a structured office environment with a limited amount of assigned field work.
Responsibilities
  • Manage and review in-plant and on-site welding inspections performed by approved bridge fabricators and other approved contractors and suppliers.
  • Knowledge and experience in AASHTO/AWS D1.1 and D1.5 Structural and Bridge Welding Codes.
  • Knowledge and experience in various non-destructive testing methods including structural steel and bridge fabrication in accordance with applicable codes and standards
  • Evaluate fabrication, erection and coatings of steel structures and the associated documentation performed by others to support that the material meets contract requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with quality control and quality assurance (QA/QC) procedures
  • Review and verify welding procedures, materials, and workmanship
  • Conduct limited field inspections at fabrication shops and construction sites
  • Evaluate and inspect coating systems and surface preparation
  • Document inspection findings and prepare detailed reports
  • Coordinate with internal teams, contractors, and state agencies as needed

Qualifications
  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification (or equivalent education and/or experience)
  • Experience with structural steel, bridge fabrication, and erection
  • Knowledge of AWS D1.1 and/or D1.5 codes
  • Strong understanding of metal properties and fabrication processes
  • Experience with QA/QC inspection practices
  • Basic knowledge of steel coating systems including surface preparation and application.
  • Preferred Qualifications (Not Mandatory)
  • AMPP (formerly NACE) Coating Inspector Certification (CIP Level II or III)
  • Experience working with state DOT or government agencies
  • Ability to travel to job sites as required
  • Work Environment
  • Combination of office work and field inspections
  • Travel to project sites and fabrication facilities within and outside Maryland as needed.

Compensation: In accordance with local law, the below salary range is applicable for the job and location associated with this requisition. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, geographical location, and other compensable factors.
Other Compensation: Employee may be eligible for participation in the Company's annual Discretionary Bonus Program which is contingent on Company, Business Segment, and Individual performance against Key Performance Indicators which vary by year and employee.
