What are tech jobs?

Tech jobs refer to roles within the technology sector, involving the development, implementation, and maintenance of computer systems, software, hardware, and networks. These jobs can range from software engineers and data analysts to IT support specialists and cybersecurity experts. Tech jobs are found across many industries and often require problem-solving skills, technical knowledge, and adaptability to rapidly changing technologies. Many positions offer remote work options and competitive salaries, making tech a popular and dynamic career field.

How does a tech professional typically collaborate with other departments within a company?

Tech professionals frequently work alongside teams from various departments such as marketing, sales, and operations to develop, implement, and support technology solutions that drive business goals. This often involves participating in cross-functional meetings, gathering user requirements, explaining technical concepts to non-technical colleagues, and troubleshooting issues together. Effective communication and teamwork are essential, as Tech professionals act as a bridge between technical and business teams. This collaborative approach ensures that technical solutions are aligned with organizational needs and enhances overall project success.

Are you a hands-on IT professional who enjoys solving technical problems and finding better ways for a business to work?

We're looking for an IT & Business Systems Specialist to support a growing mechanical and building services organization in getting the most out of its technology. This role combines IT support, business applications, systems optimization, automation, and emerging technology.

You'll work closely with employees across the organization to troubleshoot technical issues, support critical business systems, and identify practical ways to improve workflows, connect systems, and make day-to-day operations more efficient.

 Who You Are

  • A hands-on IT professional who enjoys solving problems and improving how technology is used
  • Comfortable supporting both end users and business applications
  • Naturally curious and able to quickly learn new systems and technologies
  • Interested in understanding how business processes work and where technology can make them better
  • Comfortable working independently and taking ownership from identifying a problem through to implementing a solution
  • A strong communicator who can work effectively with both technical and non-technical employees
  • Someone who enjoys variety and working across different areas of technology
  • Interested in automation, integrations, and AI and how they can create practical business value

 Work Type

  • Location: Ottawa, Ontario
  • Fully On-site - 5 days a week in-office
  • Job Type: This is a newly created position

Requirements

 What You'll Do:

  • Provide hands-on internal IT support, including hardware, software, connectivity, user access, and account issues
  • Administer and support Google Workspace, including Gmail, Drive, Calendar, and user access
  • Support and become a subject matter expert on the organization's core business applications and SaaS platforms
  • Work with employees to understand system challenges and identify opportunities to improve functionality, configuration, and adoption
  • Support the implementation of new software, system enhancements, and technology solutions
  • Identify opportunities to connect systems, improve information flow, and reduce manual processes
  • Build or configure workflow automations and integrations using available tools and platforms
  • Explore and implement practical AI solutions that improve productivity and reduce administrative work
  • Work with teams across the organization to translate business needs into practical technology solutions
  • Coordinate with external vendors and technology partners when specialized support is required
  • Maintain IT documentation, procedures, and knowledge resources

 What We're Looking For:

Must-Haves

  • 2-5 years of experience in IT support, systems support, business applications, or a similar hands-on technology role
  • Hands-on experience providing internal IT support
  • Experience supporting SaaS applications and business systems
  • Experience with Google Workspace
  • Strong technical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to quickly learn unfamiliar software and technology
  • Strong understanding of business processes and how technology can improve them
  • Comfortable working independently and taking ownership of issues through implementation
  • Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical employees
  • A curious, practical, and operational mindset

Nice to Have

  • Experience with workflow automation platforms such as Zapier, Make, or similar tools
  • Experience with APIs, integrations, or webhooks
  • Exposure to AI tools, automation, or AI agents
  • Experience supporting project management, accounting, field service, construction, or other industry-specific software
  • Experience with SaaS implementation or application administration
  • Basic scripting or technical development experience
  • Experience working with technology vendors and software providers
  • Experience working in a small or mid-sized organization where you've had broad technical responsibilities

 What Makes This Role Exciting?

  • Technology Meets Operations: Work at the intersection of IT, business systems, process improvement, automation, and AI.
  • Real Business Impact: Improve how teams work, reduce manual effort, and help employees get more value from their technology.
  • Ownership & Autonomy: Identify problems and have the opportunity to implement practical solutions.
  • Variety: Your day could range from troubleshooting an IT issue to improving a workflow or connecting two systems.
  • Room to Grow: Take on broader responsibility as you develop your understanding of the business, systems, and technology strategy.

Benefits

  • Base Salary: $65,000-$85,000
  • Paid Time Off
