Job description

JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE

The Solution Architect leads strategic design and integration of Operational Technology (OT) systems that support the utility’s core business functions, including GIS, SCADA, AMI, and ETRM platforms. This role is responsible for developing architectural roadmaps, aligning technology initiatives with enterprise strategy, and enabling system-wide interoperability, scalability, and reliability. The Solution Architect guides the design and evolution of mission-critical systems that support gas utility operations, asset intelligence, and real-time decision-making.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the development of integrated system architectures across GIS, SCADA, AMI, and ETRM to ensure seamless data flow, resilience, and operational continuity.
  • Define and maintain a multi-year technology roadmap for OT systems modernization, focusing on interoperability, cloud-readiness, cybersecurity, and scalability.
  • Evaluate and select tools, platforms, and frameworks that meet the performance, reliability, and compliance needs of Delta’s utility operations.
  • Collaborate with executives, IT, engineering, and operations leaders to align OT technology roadmaps with corporate strategy, regulatory requirements, and digital transformation goals.
  • Establish architectural standards, governance models, and lifecycle planning for OT platforms and integrated systems.
  • Conduct capability gap assessments and recommend innovative solutions that modernize infrastructure and improve cross-platform integration.
  • Oversee the integration of spatial (GIS) and non-spatial (SCADA, AMI, ETRM) data sources, ensuring integrity, synchronization, and availability across platforms.
  • Collaborate with internal and external (contractor) data engineers and developers to define data pipelines, APIs, and automation frameworks for enterprise data sharing and analytics.
  • Champion the standardization of data models, metadata, and geospatial governance to support accurate, enterprise-wide decision-making.
  • Provide architectural oversight and technical leadership during project planning, design, and implementation phases.
  • Communicate system concepts and roadmaps to technical and non-technical stakeholders with clear, actionable guidance.
  • Serve as a liaison between business users, IT/OT operations, and third-party vendors or platform providers SMEs (ESRI, AspenTech OSI, Quorum, Oracle, etc.). Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Minimum education required of the position

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related technical field.

Minimum experience required of the position

  • 8+ years of experience designing, implementing, or managing OT and IT systems in utility, energy, or infrastructure sectors.
  • Proven expertise in systems architecture with at least two of the following: ArcGIS Utility Network, SCADA (OSI Monarch), AMI systems, or ETRM platforms (Quorum).

Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities preferred of the position

  • Strong understanding of system integration principles, APIs, data flows, and automation frameworks.
  • Experience developing technology roadmaps, enterprise architecture frameworks (e.g., TOGAF, Zachman), or digital transformation initiatives.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based infrastructure, edge computing, cybersecurity standards (e.g., NIST), and data governance practices.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, with the ability to influence across business and technical teams.
  • Experience with scripting, data engineering, or solution development (e.g., Python, SQL, .NET) is a plus.
