General Summary

The ideal candidate is a technically skilled, service-oriented professional with a strong focus on security. This role requires the ability to manage competing priorities across a broad range of technologies, adapt quickly to changing needs, and collaborate effectively with multiple departments. Success in this position depends on sound judgment, flexibility, and the ability to prioritize work based on business needs and operational impact.

Reporting to the Supervisor of Hardware and Infrastructure, the Systems Administrator will support GTI Energy’s Information Technology team by maintaining and enhancing a highly virtualized Microsoft environment. This role includes working with technologies such as Active Directory, Azure, cloud services, Microsoft 365, Microsoft Teams, Intune, NetApp SAN and NAS storage, cybersecurity tools, and backup solutions. The Systems Administrator will support day-to-day operations, contribute to IT process and project execution, assist with incident response and complex issue resolution, and play an active role in change management initiatives that strengthen and expand business systems.

Work Location

This position is based at GTI Energy’s headquarters in Des Plaines, Illinois. Employees follow a hybrid work schedule and are expected to work on-site Tuesday through Thursday. Remote work on some Mondays and Fridays may be permitted based on business needs and IT support rotation requirements.

 
Primary Responsibilities
  • Proactively maintain and support GTI Energy’s server, storage, cloud, and infrastructure environments to ensure availability, performance, and reliability.
  • Monitor system capacity, performance, and health, and address issues before they affect business operations.
  • Administer and resolve support tickets related to hardware, software, cloud services, and infrastructure systems.
  • Provide Level 2 and Level 3 help desk support, troubleshooting complex technical issues and outages as needed.
  • Install, configure, maintain, and upgrade PCs, servers, virtual machines, network hardware, firewalls, backup systems, and other IT equipment.
  • Manage business systems and technology tools, including implementing updates, new releases, and system improvements.
  • Support security through access controls, policies, procedures, and adherence to IT and organizational standards.
  • Participate in disaster recovery planning and failover activities for business applications and associated systems.
  • Develop, maintain, and improve system documentation, technical procedures, process workflows, and end-user instructions.
  • Recommend and implement improvements to IT systems, processes, and operational practices.
  • Contribute to IT-led and cross-functional projects that support business objectives and technology initiatives.
  • Demonstrate GTI Energy’s core values while delivering proactive, high-quality technical support and service.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
 
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics
  • Strong understanding of the interconnectivity among Azure Active Directory, on-premises Active Directory, security controls, Group Policy, Azure networking, on-premises networking, Microsoft 365, firewalls, and trust relationships.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Intune across its core administrative functions.
  • Experience administering network hardware, including switches, routers, and firewalls.
  • Experience managing virtualized environments in both on-premises and cloud-based settings.
  • Knowledge of physical and virtual storage technologies and related methodologies.
  • Knowledge of network and systems troubleshooting methods and best practices.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Copilot.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to process information logically and develop effective solutions.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Excellent customer service skills and a commitment to responsive, high-quality support.
 
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology or a related field and 7+ years of relevant professional experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Candidates with a master’s degree may qualify with 5+ years of relevant professional experience.
  • Experience as a Systems, Network, Azure, Cloud, Security, and/or SharePoint Administrator, or in a similar role, is preferred.
  • Familiarity with PowerShell, Power BI, Power Apps, SharePoint Online, and/or web services is preferred.
  • Knowledge of database administration, Java, and/or SQL scripting is a plus.
  • Experience working in Linux environments is a plus.
 
Pay Transparency

The salary range for this position is $90,000 - $120,000 USD annually. This salary range is GTI Energy’s good faith estimate, and the actual salary may vary based on a number of factors including, but not limited to, GTI Energy’s business or organizational needs and an individual’s relevant experience, education, qualifications, certifications, skills, seniority, geographic location, and/or performance. Compensation details listed in this posting reflect the base hourly rate, monthly rate, or annual salary only, and do not include bonus. The range listed is just one component of GTI Energy’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, paid time off, and region-specific benefits.
