What are tech jobs?

Tech jobs refer to roles within the technology sector, involving the development, implementation, and maintenance of computer systems, software, hardware, and networks. These jobs can range from software engineers and data analysts to IT support specialists and cybersecurity experts. Tech jobs are found across many industries and often require problem-solving skills, technical knowledge, and adaptability to rapidly changing technologies. Many positions offer remote work options and competitive salaries, making tech a popular and dynamic career field.

How does a tech professional typically collaborate with other departments within a company?

Tech professionals frequently work alongside teams from various departments such as marketing, sales, and operations to develop, implement, and support technology solutions that drive business goals. This often involves participating in cross-functional meetings, gathering user requirements, explaining technical concepts to non-technical colleagues, and troubleshooting issues together. Effective communication and teamwork are essential, as Tech professionals act as a bridge between technical and business teams. This collaborative approach ensures that technical solutions are aligned with organizational needs and enhances overall project success.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a tech professional, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Tech professional, you need a solid understanding of computer science fundamentals, problem-solving abilities, and often a relevant degree or certification. Familiarity with programming languages, development frameworks, and tools like Git, cloud platforms, or specific software systems is frequently required. Strong communication, teamwork, and adaptability help you collaborate across projects and quickly learn new technologies. These skills are crucial for staying effective in a rapidly evolving industry and delivering successful technology solutions.

Job description

IT Director
Athens, GA | W2 Hourly
We are a managed IT services company serving small and mid-sized businesses across the Athens and Northeast Georgia area. We help our clients get more out of their technology so they can focus on running their business.
We're looking for an experienced IT Director to lead our technical team and serve as the operational backbone of our service delivery. This is a hands-on leadership role — you'll be in the trenches with the team while also owning the processes that keep everything running smoothly.

This is a W2 position that is hourly. The candidate will be responsible to logging his/her hours.
───
What You'll Do
Lead the Technical Team
• Manage and develop a small team of IT engineers and support technicians
• Track team hours and ensure time is being logged accurately against tickets and projects
• Hold the team accountable to performance goals, SLAs, and quality standards
• Serve as the first point of escalation for complex technical issues the team can't resolve
Own Project Triage & Delivery
• Manage the project queue — assess incoming projects, assign to the right team member, and ensure forward progress
• Keep projects moving without necessarily doing all the hands-on work yourself
• Communicate project status to leadership and clients as needed
Bill Time as an Engineer
• This is not a purely administrative role — you will bill time to client tickets and projects
• Expected to contribute technical work directly, especially on escalations and high-priority issues
Sales Engineering
• Join the sales reps on client meetings and sales calls with existing and prospective clients
• Help translate technical recommendations into business value
• Support scoping and quoting for project work
───
What We're Looking For
• 3+ years of experience in in a MSP
• Demonstrated leadership experience — you've managed or mentored other technicians
• Strong troubleshooting skills across networking, endpoints, Microsoft 365, and cloud platforms
• Comfortable in client-facing situations — you can explain technical concepts in plain English
• Detail-oriented with time tracking and project management
• Experience and skill working on servers: spec'ing new hardware, OS upgrades, troubleshooting issues
───
Compensation & Benefits
• W2 hourly position
• Compensation commensurate with experience
