Job description

Ozarks First in Springfield, Missouri, is hiring a Reporter/MMJ. This role is ideal for a journalist who is enterprising, collaborative, and passionate about telling engaging stories across broadcast, digital, and streaming platforms. The successful candidate must be able to write and deliver clear, conversational, and compelling stories on TV, CTV, and on our website. A strong social media presence will be required for this position.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Enterprise original, impactful stories that resonate with the local community across all platforms - broadcast, digital, streaming, and social media.

  • Pitch stories of interest to the entire audience, while also understanding the importance of targeting specific members of that audience

  • Deliver live reports with confidence and clarity, especially during breaking news and developing stories.

  • Write and produce content in a clear, concise, and engaging manner tailored to each platform.

  • Build anetwork of sources to help Ozarks First stay ahead of its competitors

  • Collaborate with producers, photographers, and newsroom staff to shape coverage and segment ideas.

  • Ensure all content meets Ozarks First/Nexstar standards for journalistic integrity and production quality.

  • Interact frequently with viewers/users on social media platforms to build engagement and brand

  • Work on special projects and other duties as assigned, including community service initiatives

Requirements & Skills:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Broadcast Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience

  • Fluency in English

  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to ad lib when required

  • Minimum experience in a newsroom or a focus on news reporting

  • Confident on-air presence

  • Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously

  • Social media expertise, proficiency

  • Must learn all current newsgathering technology, including video cameras, editing equipment, and newsroom computer systems

  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record

  • Flexibility to work any shift
