What is the next big thing in the world?

For a tech designer, the next big thing involves advancements in artificial intelligence, augmented reality, and sustainable technology. Staying updated with emerging tools and industry trends is essential to innovate effectively in these areas.

What is a tech job?

A tech job involves working in the technology industry, often focusing on areas such as software development, hardware engineering, cybersecurity, or IT support. These roles typically require technical skills, familiarity with relevant tools or programming languages, and may involve working in office or remote environments. Tech jobs can range from entry-level positions to specialized roles requiring certifications or advanced education.

How does a Tech Designer typically collaborate with game developers and artists during a project lifecycle?

Tech Designers serve as a bridge between the creative and technical teams, working closely with game developers to implement gameplay features and with artists to ensure visual assets function seamlessly in the game engine. Throughout a project, they translate design ideas into technical specifications, often prototyping mechanics and troubleshooting integration issues. Regular team meetings, iterative testing, and clear communication are key parts of their workflow, enabling smooth collaboration and ensuring the final product aligns with the original vision.

What is the difference between Tech Designer vs UX Designer?

AspectTech DesignerUX Designer
Required CredentialsTypically a background in design, technology, or engineering; often with coding skillsUsually a degree in design, psychology, or human-computer interaction; focus on user research

Job description

Overview

Alo is seeking a visionary 3D Technical Designer to lead the digital evolution of our garment development process. This role is at the intersection of traditional craftsmanship and cutting-edge technology. You will be responsible for procuring high-fidelity 3D garment assemblies, collaborating with Fit Technicians to perfect silhouettes, and translating digital files into production-ready assets.

The ideal candidate possesses a rare blend of technical engineering and artistic instinct, allowing them to optimize garment construction for both economic efficiency and the iconic "alo fit."

Responsibilities
  • Execute advanced 3D prototypes in CLO based on Technical Design Block direction from the Director of Technical Design, ensuring garments accurately reflect construction, drape, and performance standards.

  • Serve as the primary administrator for CLO 3D and the CLO-SET environment, maintaining platform integrity and digital governance.

  • Manage and organize global digital libraries including fabrics, trims, blocks, avatars, and hardware, ensuring all assets meet quality and accuracy benchmarks.

  • Support and evolve digital workflows to reduce physical sample waste while accelerating speed-to-market and increasing operational efficiency.

  • Assist in testing new digital tools and software enhancements, providing structured feedback and implementation recommendations.

  • Define and maintain quality standards for all 3D assets, including fabric scan accuracy, trim digitization, and garment simulation performance.

  • Drive reduction in physical sample iterations through high-fidelity digital prototypes, building a scalable and sustainable digital ecosystem.

  • Monitor CLO fit notes in collaboration with Technical Designers and Fit Experts, producing refined 3D assets for review by Technical Fit Advisors.

  • Manage PLM data pull requests regarding specs, style history, and timestamping to ensure a "single source of truth."

  • Organize style queues for vendor comments and ensure 3D assets clearly communicate construction requirements to global manufacturing partners.

Requirements
  • Degree in Fashion Design, Apparel Manufacturing, or related technical field.

  • Advanced proficiency in CLO 3D and CLO-SET; experience with fabric scanning and digital trim application is essential.

  • Expert-level knowledge of sewing, patternmaking, and garment assembly, with a deep understanding of how 2D patterns translate into 3D drape.

  • Experience working across multiple product categories (activewear required; knit and woven experience preferred).

  • High proficiency in PLM systems and Adobe Creative Suite.

  • Highly organized, detail-oriented multi-tasker with a passion for digital tailoring, innovation, and sustainable fashion.

The base salary range for this position is $80,000-$95,000 per year which represents the current range for the base salary for this exempt position. Please note that actual salaries will vary based on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. As such, on occasion and when applicable, there is the possibility that the final, agreed-upon base salary may be outside of the upper end of the range. Please also note the range listed is just one component of the company's total rewards package for exempt employees. Other rewards may include performance bonuses, long term incentives, a PTO policy, and many other progressive benefits.
