Position Summary:

The Controller will serve as a key business partner to executive leadership and play a critical role in preparing the organization for its next phase of growth. The company is targeting a 3x expansion, and this role will be instrumental in building the financial infrastructure, team, and processes to support that scale.


This is a high-impact leadership role with a clear path to CFO.

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES:

  • Partner closely with the CFO, CEO, COO, VP of Operations, executive team and other stakeholders to support strategic decision-making and long-term growth initiatives
  • Help design and build a scalable financial infrastructure to support the company's targeted growth
  • Provide actionable financial insights, reporting, and analysis to drive operational and investment decisions
  • Own and oversee all aspects of the accounting function, including general ledger, financial reporting, and multi-entity consolidations
  • Ensure timely, accurate, and GAAP-compliant financial statements across all entities and locations
  • Build, lead, and develop a high-performing accounting organization
  • Establish structure, accountability, and consistency across the accounting department
  • Evaluate, implement, and optimize accounting systems, tools, and workflows
  • Identify and lead automation initiatives to reduce manual processes and increase efficiency
  • Partner cross-functionally to improve data flow, reporting accuracy, and system integration
  • Design, implement, and maintain strong internal controls over financial reporting
  • Oversee cash management and support cash forecasting across multiple locations
  • Provide oversight of Assistant Controller, Accounts Payable, and Treasury functions (with continued team build-out expected)
  • Partner with operations to improve financial visibility and performance at the property and portfolio level
  • Preference for working in a family office environment with less conventional structure

Requirements

KEY COMPETENCIES:

  1. Timeliness & Accuracy: Proficiency in closing prior month financials by location, completed by the 15th calendar day of the following month, demonstrating meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
  2. Analytical Skills: Capability to complete month-end cash analysis by location by the 3rd business day following month-end and review findings with CEO and COO, reflecting strong analytical and reporting skills.
  3. Leadership & Development: Commitment to conducting training with the team quarterly (can be via TEAM's), which may include field personnel on key topics and new technologies, illustrating dedication to continuous improvement and team development.
  4. Problem-Solving: Ability to quickly identify issues and implement effective solutions, crucial for maintaining operational efficiency and achieving financial objectives.
  5. Adaptability: Flexibility to adapt strategies and tactics in response to or in anticipation of changing business conditions and regulatory environments.
  6. Teamwork & Collaboration: Foster a culture of collaboration and open communication, ensuring team alignment towards common goals.
  7. Innovation: Continuously seek and integrate innovative practices and technologies to improve financial processes and operational efficiencies.
  8. Technology: Experience implementing or improving accounting technology and automation
  9. Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to all financial regulations and standards, safeguarding the company against compliance risks.


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership roles
  • Experience in real estate, property management, or multi-entity environments preferred
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting
  • Proven track record of building or transforming accounting processes, systems, and teams
  • Experience implementing or improving accounting technology and automation
  • Strong leadership, communication, and business partnership skills
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment
