Job description

We are seeking energetic, outgoing team players to provide expert yoga instruction and personal attention to members in a safe, enjoyable and positive environment. Our awesome yoga staff works with a diverse population every day to promote health and wellness and support the fitness goals of all our members.

Ideal availability would be to teach late morning on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. Instructor should be able to adjust their teaching for an older population. Ability to teach a gentle, yin, or restorative class is required.

POSITION SUMMARY:

These general functions will be carried out in keeping with the Goals, Policies and Mission of the YMCA of the East Bay. The Yoga Instructor is responsible for teaching yoga classes to members.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Provide highly engaging yoga instruction to members of all fitness levels in group workouts and workshops.
  2. Provide instruction to members on the safe use of all equipment and workouts.
  3. Assists in yoga program and workshop design.
  4. Engage by greeting members and providing quality member service.
  5. Maintain high standards of communication with supervisor, members, staff and volunteers.
  6. Ensure the maintenance and cleanliness of all facility and equipment in the Fitness Centers.
  7. Responsible for recording information as needed.
  8. Respond to emergencies as needed.
  9. Maintain Standards of Conduct as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  10. Attend all department staff meetings and trainings specified by supervisor.
  11. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Physically perform all skills required of a Yoga Instructor. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions
  • Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions of position and to supervise program activities and mobility to quickly respond to emergencies
  • Must occasionally lift up to 30 lbs
  • Frequent bending & standing
  • Visual ability to clearly monitor activities
  • Ability to project, communicate and queue effectively

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Specialized certification(s) in yoga teaching from accredited organizations
  • Understanding of the philosophy and background of the various forms of yoga and meditation
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications, such as Red Cross and American Heart Association
  • Ability to teach and design programs using props and other class-related equipment.
  • Completion of YMCA safety certifications must be accomplished within 60 days of hire
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse people from all social and economic segments of the community
  • At least 18 years of age
