JOB DESCRIPTION

Permanent Substitute

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: To plan and deliver rigorous, relevant curriculum and to facilitate student participation and opportunity for students' mastery of learning standards in assigned classrooms.

REPORTS TO: Principal

QUALIFICATIONS: 

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution; valid and appropriate Substitute License registered in Region 7

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provides a stimulating teaching-learning environment, making use of a variety of instructional tools and teaching aids.
  2. Reviews with the principal, department chairperson, or team leader all plans and schedules to be followed during the teaching day.
  3. Attends all meetings called by the Superintendent or her/his designee or Principal unless excused by the person calling the meeting.
  4. Actively participates in curriculum study groups, textbook committees, or other groups to which the teacher may be assigned.
  5. Maintains high expectations for student conduct and enforce expectations at all school functions.
  6. Maintains the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which he/she is assigned.
  7. Utilizes approved instructional material and appropriate equipment or technology for educational purposes.
  8. Consults with the building principal (department chairperson, team leader) before initiating any teaching or other procedures not specified in the lesson plan.
  9. Maintains appropriate supervision of students at all times.
  10. Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as the Superintendent or her or his designee may assign.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

180-day work calendar. Exempt. Salary range: Per School Year Salary Placement Schedule - Step 1

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of support staff.

Physical Demands: Ordinary ambulatory ability to retrieve work materials, intermittent walking, standing, stooping, and carrying and lifting of light weight materials; requires visual acuity sufficient to recognize people, words, and numbers; requires hand-eye-arm and finger dexterity to use a personal computer keyboard, ten-key, and other common office equipment; requires speaking and hearing ability sufficient to hear over phone and carry on routine conversations. 

Work Environment: Work is performed in a school with minimal exposure to health and safety considerations.
