Proposed Role Overview
The Coordinator of School Learning, Innovation & Student Opportunity will serve across four key pillars:
Teaching & Learning Support - partnering with district leadership to support building principals and instructional staff
Innovation & Student Opportunity Creation - designing programs and partnerships that expand what is possible for USD 417 students
District Coordination - serving as 504 Coordinator and overseeing Early Childhood programming
AI-Empowered Leadership - personally modeling and growing the use of AI tools across the district
Position Summary
The Coordinator of School Learning, Innovation & Student Opportunity is a forward-facing leadership position designed to move USD 417 beyond a traditional model of education. This role serves as a direct partner to the Superintendent and Director of Teaching & Learning, supporting building leaders and staff in keeping district initiatives on track, ensuring student growth is happening at every level, and creating new and expanded opportunities for students across Morris County.
Purpose: To serve as a teammate to the Superintendent and Director of Teaching & Learning in supporting building leadership and staff - driving initiatives forward while using data to monitor and support student learning and growth.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Learning Support
- Partner with the Superintendent and Director of Teaching & Learning to monitor and support the implementation of district instructional initiatives
- Support building principals and instructional staff in ensuring consistent student growth across all schools
- Serve as a connector between district vision and daily classroom practice
- Help identify and address gaps in instruction, curriculum, and student support systems
Innovation & Student Opportunity Creation
- Design and expand programs that create new and meaningful pathways for students at the elementary and secondary level
- Build and sustain external partnerships - with community colleges, businesses, and organizations - that expand what is possible for USD 417 students
- Research and bring forward innovative instructional models that align with the district's strategic direction
- Continuously ask: What opportunities do our students deserve that they don't yet have access to?
District Coordination
- Serve as the district-wide 504 Coordinator, ensuring legal compliance and equitable support for all students with accommodation plans across USD 417
- Provide leadership and oversight for Early Childhood programming district-wide
- Support continuity and consistency of student services across all buildings
- Provide administrator support in buildings when needed
AI-Empowered Leadership
- Personally model the use of artificial intelligence tools to amplify leadership effectiveness and daily work
- Support building leaders and teachers in growing their own practical use of AI for instruction and operations
- Help USD 417 think proactively about how emerging technology shapes the future of learning and school leadership
- Use AI as a genuine multiplier of impact - not a gimmick, but a professional tool
Qualifications
Required
- Valid Kansas teaching license; administrative licensure preferred or actively pursuing
- Minimum of three years of successful classroom teaching experience
- Demonstrated ability to build strong professional relationships across a variety of stakeholders
- Evidence of instructional leadership and the ability to support adult learners
- Working knowledge of 504 regulations and student accommodation processes or willingness to learn
Preferred
- Experience in curriculum development, instructional coaching, or program design
- Demonstrated use of AI tools in a professional or educational setting
- Experience building community and educational partnerships post-secondary
- Familiarity with early childhood education programming
- Experience working in a rural school setting
The Person We Are Looking For
This is not a position for someone who wants to maintain the status quo. We are looking for someone who:
- Believes deeply that every student in Morris County deserves a world-class education
- Is energized by change, ambiguity, and building something new
- Leads with relationships first and uses data to inform - not replace - good judgment
- Is already using AI and emerging tools in their own professional practice
- Can hold the big picture and the day-to-day at the same time
- Wants to grow - and wants to help everyone around them grow too
Our Guiding Questions
Every decision in USD 417 flows through three questions. The person in this role must live by them:
- Is it best for kids:
- Can we support the adults in doing it?
- Can we afford it?
