Job description


About This Role

Saint John Preschool in Darien, is seeking a caring, creative, and experienced Head Teacher for our 3-Day 3’s class for the 2026–2027 school year. The class meets Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Saint John Preschool is a warm, play-based early childhood program that values curiosity, kindness, and the social-emotional growth of each child within a supportive community.

The position begins late August 2026, with the option to work two weeks in June for summer camp.

There is also the option for additional hours, including afternoon Lunch Bunch supervision or substitute teaching in other classrooms on Thursdays and Fridays, if desired.


What You'll Do
  • Planning and implementing a developmentally appropriate early childhood curriculum
  • Fostering a nurturing, values-based, and engaging classroom environment
  • Communicating effectively with families and colleagues
  • Supervising and collaborating with an assistant teacher
  • Attending staff meetings
  • Attending some school events
  • Conducting family conferences twice a year and completing written reports for each child

Requirements
  • Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field preferred
  • Prior experience teaching in a preschool or early childhood setting
  • Strong understanding of child development and early learning practices
  • Successful completion of a background check
  • VIRTUS training (required; can be completed after hire)
  • CPR/First Aid and Medication Administration certification preferred; training will be provided in September if not currently certified
  • Must be able to write clear, well-organized, and professional reports
