Overview

Position:  STEAM Scholars Teacher

Department: Youth and Family Education/21st Century Community Learning Center (21st CCLC) STEAM Scholars PA

STEAM Academy Charter School

Availability of Position:  6/15/26 - 7/23/26      

Schedule: Part time, Monday-Thursday, 8:00-12:30pm

Reporting Relationship: Directly:  STEAM Scholars Site Director Indirectly: Youth and Family Education Administrator

Salary or Salary Grade: $28.50/hr, 77 NE 

Responsibilities

Position Overview: The S2 Teachers are responsible for creating a quality nurturing and educational program environment by demonstrating proficiency in the assigned curriculum and effectively creating and implementing lesson plans.  S2 Teachers will support the tutors, lead academic instruction, review students' work products and provide instruction and intensive interventions where needed.  Teachers will also provide instruction to the Lead Facilitators, Tutors and volunteers during the academic portion of the S2 program to ensure program participants are receiving appropriate and strategic academic supports. Teachers will provide clear direction, support the tutors and observe academic instruction provided by the facilitators, tutors and volunteers.  The S2 program will serve PA STEAM Academy Charter School children.  The Teacher will use the ARC, K-5 Math Teaching Resources, Great Minds, Engage NY Mathematics, and Eureka Mathematics during academic instruction periods. The S2 Teacher is responsible for maintaining student records, student notes/observations, updating daily tutor sheets, and providing progress reports. The Teacher will administer pre-assessment and on-going assessment tools and any other milestone testing deemed necessary.  Meet with students, teachers and parents to develop specific achievement goals and the individual learning plan for each student if needed.  Provide timely feedback to Site Director.  Provide positive reinforcement to students.   S2 staff can support the Teachers in these efforts.  Teachers must attend all trainings and be willing to learn to assist with other assigned curriculums and implement lessons. This position is part-time employment with various hours to meet program needs for both summer and school year after school programs.    

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Degree in the field of Education, Certified Teacher in Elementary Education required
  • Confidentiality in all areas, mandatory
  • Current classroom experience
  • Ability to ensure lessons are interactive and engaging
  • Must possess excellent organizational and record keeping skills
  • Knowledge of cultural flexibility, competency in working with multi-cultural participants and experience working with urban youth
  • Good interpersonal communication skills, strong organizational and classroom management skills
  • Valid Driver's License
  • As a Mandated Reporter, must provide proof of having completed training on recognizing and reporting child abuse meeting the training standards of PA Act 153.
  • Meets the Child Protection Clearances required by PA Act 153 to include PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check and FBI Criminal Record Check through the Department of Human Services
  • Must have an understanding of and appreciation for the Mission of The Salvation Army
