Job description

Hardscape & Landscape Installation Foreman

This is an experienced working Foreman position and is not an entry-level, trainee, or general labor position.

Applicants should have professional experience leading landscape and hardscape installation projects. We are looking for someone who can step into this leadership role with minimal training and successfully lead projects from day one.

About the Position

Wells Lawn Care & Landscaping in Bloomington, IN is seeking an experienced and dependable Hardscape & Landscape Installation Foreman to provide hands-on leadership by leading, teaching, mentoring, and working alongside a 2–3 person installation crew to complete high-quality landscape and hardscape projects safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.

This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll lead by example, develop your crew, ensure exceptional craftsmanship, and deliver outstanding customer service on every project.

Compensation

Pay: $27.00–$30.00 per hour, depending on experience, years of professional landscape and hardscape installation experience, leadership ability, and overall qualifications.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and work alongside a 2–3 person landscape installation crew.
  • Lead, teach, mentor, and develop crew members while promoting a positive, productive, and safe work environment.
  • Read and interpret landscape plans, construction drawings, and job specifications.
  • Accurately lay out projects and establish proper grades, elevations, slopes, and drainage.
  • Install and oversee landscape and hardscape projects, including:
    • Segmental retaining walls (concrete block, natural stone, and other retaining wall systems).
    • Paver patios, walkways, steps, borders, and driveways.
    • Flagstone patios, walkways, and stairs.
    • Plantings, sod, seed, grading, drainage, and other landscape improvements.
  • Safely operate skid steers, mini skid steers, mini excavators, trenchers, compactors, saws, and other landscape construction equipment.
  • Safely drive company vehicles and tow equipment and material trailers.
  • Assign daily work, manage production, and keep crew members productive throughout the day.
  • Demonstrate proper installation techniques, work habits, and safety procedures.
  • Monitor quality throughout every phase of each project to ensure work meets company standards.
  • Identify site issues, plan conflicts, material needs, and communicate solutions to the Project Manager.
  • Communicate professionally with clients regarding project progress, scheduling, site conditions, and expectations.
  • Complete daily job documentation, production reports, photos, and employee time tracking.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe jobsites while protecting customer property and company equipment.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 2 years of professional landscape and hardscape installation experience (2–5 years preferred).
  • Previous experience leading or supervising a landscape installation crew.
  • Proven knowledge of landscape construction, hardscape installation, grading, drainage, excavation, compaction, and site layout.
  • Ability to read and interpret landscape construction plans and accurately lay out projects.
  • Experience safely operating landscape construction equipment and towing equipment trailers.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to lift 50+ pounds repeatedly and perform physically demanding outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organization, problem-solving, and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, professionalism, quality workmanship, and continuous improvement.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience using LMN software for production tracking, timekeeping, or job management is preferred but not required.
