Position Title:ย Physical Education & Health Teacher -ย  Carmen Arace Middle School
Work Location:ย Carmen Arace Middle School
Reports to: Principal
Bargaining Unit:ย  Bloomfield Education Association (Teachers)
Work Year: 186 days
Position Summary:






  • Position is responsible for creating a classroom environment that fosters, promotes and develops an understanding of the relationship of healthy body function and exercise; that motivates each student to cultivate physical fitness, and appropriate social and emotional adjustment across multiple schools.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities: This is not an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities associated with this role. Bloomfield Public Schools reserves the right to amend and change responsibilities to meet educational and organizational goals.ย 

  • Teaches knowledge and skills in both PE & Health Education.
  • Works cooperatively with other health teachers in planning and implementing a balanced PE & Health Education program.
  • Develops lesson plans and supplementary materials; provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student and subgroups of students.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment in the health education areas.
  • Evaluates academic and social growth of students, and keeps appropriate records.
  • Evaluates each student's growth, knowledge, and contribution.
  • Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress.


Qualifications/Competencies Required:ย 

  • Health and Physical Education Connecticut Teaching Certification
  • Primary teaching assignment in the subject area and grade level.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills in working cooperatively with staff, students, parents, and administration.
  • Effective communication skills with students and staff.
  • Demonstrated organizational abilities.
  • Knowledge of student and department instructional practices, procedures and interpretation of assessments.
  • Ability to assist in the development and administration of Health education assessments including CFAs, benchmarks, and high stakes tests.
  • Other experience, training, and qualifications deemed significant by the Superintendent of Schools.
  • CPR/First Aid Instructor Certification preferred
