What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a teacher residency program, and why are they important?
What are some common challenges faced during a teacher residency program and how are they typically supported?
What is the difference between Teacher Residency Program vs Student Teacher?
| Aspect | Teacher Residency Program | Student Teacher |
|---|---|---|
| Credentials | Typically requires a bachelor's degree and enrollment in a teacher preparation program | Usually completing a degree in education or related field, often as part of their coursework |
| Work Environment | Intensive, full-year classroom experience with mentorship | Part-time classroom observation and teaching as part of coursework |
| Employer & Industry Usage | Run by school districts or teacher preparation programs; aimed at developing new teachers | Placed in classrooms for practical experience during teacher training |
The Teacher Residency Program offers a comprehensive, year-long training with mentorship, preparing participants for a teaching career. In contrast, a Student Teacher is typically gaining practical experience as part of their education coursework, often for a shorter duration. Both roles involve classroom exposure, but the residency provides more structured, in-depth training aimed at certification readiness.
