Location: Centura College - 616 Denbigh Blvd, Newport News, VA 23608

Compensation:ย Up to $23/hour + $2500 Sign On Bonus

Schedule Optionsย 

  • Monday - Thursday:ย 8:00am - 2:00pm (occasional Fridays)

About the Roleย 

Theย Medical Assistant Instructorย is responsible for providing subject matter instruction to students in a classroom or lab setting. This position is required to teach assigned classes as scheduled or as assigned, and perform administrative functions related to teaching. ย 

Key Dutiesย 

  • Teach classes on a regularly scheduled basis assigned and create a welcoming environment for students that is conducive to learning.ย 
  • Assist Program Coordinator, Campus Director of Education, or Campus Executive Director in developing curriculum, preparing course materials, class scheduling, and maintaining tools and equipment used by students.
  • Maintain a neat and orderly classroom or lab.
  • Establish and maintain academic and attendance records for student files. Medical Assistant Instructor
  • Submit attendance, grades, student evaluations, and all other reports/documentation to Supervisor or appropriate personnel as required by established procedures.
  • Notify Supervisor of any current or potential issues which warrant immediate attention.
  • Utilize proven retention techniques approved by the school to assist students.
  • Complete performance-based teacher education modules as assigned by Supervisor, based on outcomes of classroom observations, instructor evaluations, and student completed surveys.
  • Attend and/or conduct in-service training, faculty meetings or other mandatory meetings.
  • Assist with the department equipment and supplies inventory and submit replenishment requests to Supervisor or appropriate personnel.
  • Alert Supervisor to student absences, especially on first, third and fifth absence occurrences. ย 
  • Perform and complete other tasks that may be assigned by the Supervisor.ย 

Required Qualificationsย 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty in a satisfactory manner. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required for this position.   • Must have a minimum of 3 years related practical work experience in the subject matter.ย ย 
  • RMA, CCMA, or CMA certification. Basic Life Support (BLS) current or within 6 months of hire date.
  • Must demonstrate an up-to-date knowledge and continue study of the subject matter.ย ย 
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, performance-driven, compliance-oriented educational environment. ย 
  • Detail-oriented, analytical, highly organized, and have the ability to multi-task and work well under pressure. ย 
  • Demonstrate a high level of integrity, strong work ethic, and professionalism. ย 
  • Persuasive and effective verbal and written communication skills, with a strong focus on customer service in an educational setting. ย 
  • Highly motivated and goal-oriented, with strong problem-solving skills. ย

  • Excellent computer skills are required with proficiency in MS Office applications including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, and Teams.ย 
  • Exhibits a positive, team-oriented attitude by remaining flexible and available to work outside of scheduled hours when needed, as directed by the Supervisor.
  • Ability and willingness to travel locally or overnight occasionally for business.ย 
  • No prior teaching experience required. We provide a 5-day paid instructor training program to help you successfully transition into the classroom.
