Description

Baristas are responsible for preparing and serving hot and cold beverages, including various types of coffee and tea, while also preparing grab-and-go food items for guests during specific shifts. Responsibilities include educating customers on the drinks menu, making recommendations based on preferences, up-selling special items, taking orders, and processing payments. Baristas also complete cleaning and prep work in addition to beverage and food preparation. Must be knowledgeable of menu items, recipes, ingredients, and brewing equipment operation. Baristas play a large role in creating a welcoming atmosphere and guest satisfaction in the Westin Marketplace.


Schedule:

  • Shift Times AM: 5am - 11am Monday - Saturday; 5am - 12pm Sundays
  • Shift Times PM: 10:30AM-6:30PM Monday-Thursday; 2PM-9:30PM Friday-Saturday
  • Part time available with at least two days availability including one shift Friday or Saturday
  • Full time available with open availability
  • **Holiday availability is a must.

Pay:

  • $12/hr + tips

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Greet and welcome customers upon entrance, answer questions, and accept orders and payments in the Indigo Marketplace.
  • Present drink menus and be knowledgeable of menu contents, recipes, and marketplace offerings.
  • Take orders while paying attention to details such as preferences of coffee blend, dairy and sugar ratios.
  • Prepare beverages following recipes and make suggestions based on guest preferences.
  • Prepare foods such as sandwiches or baked goods, grind and blend coffee beans, brew coffee and tea, and serve items to customers.
  • Serve beverages and prepared food, like cookies, pastries and muffins.
  • Package food and beverages for sale.
  • Input orders into cash register system, receive and process payments (cash and credit cards), and deliver checks and collect payments.
  • Handle cash responsibly in accordance with hotel guidelines.
  • Keep the marketplace area clean and tidy at all times.
  • Bus marketplace areas and tables and clean up areas in and around the marketplace after employee and guest use.
  • Clean dishes, utensils, work areas, tables and equipment throughout the day.
  • Complete opening and closing duties including setting up necessary supplies and tools, cleaning all equipment and areas, locking doors, etc.
  • Set up, stock, and maintain work areas and ensure that appliances (e.g., coffee makers) are turned on/off at the appropriate times.
  • Check if brewing equipment operates properly and report any maintenance needs.
  • Communicate customer feedback to managers
  • Adhere to all Health Department rules and regulations and brand standards.
  • Must be responsible for security of guests, fellow employees and hotel assets.
  • Must perform any other required duties as requested by the Market supervisor or other Department Managers to aid in better operation of the hotel, restaurant, marketplace, and service to the guests.
  • Keep confidential the business functions of the company including, but not limited to, financial status, customer/guest information, employee issues, etc.
  • Act with integrity in every decision.

Education and Experience:

  • Previous work experience as a Barista or in a fast casual environment is preferred.
  • Some customer service experience in a job or volunteer capacity is required.
  • Hands-on experience with brewing equipment is preferred.
  • High school diploma; relevant training is a plus.
  • Must be at least 18 to operate equipment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Stand/walk on feet for 8 hours and work in a restrictive space/environment.
  • Finger dexterity to type, to write, and work on a computer or micros machine.
  • Must speak in a clear, understandable voice and hear at a basic level, and understand English.
  • Must be able to bend, stretch arms overhead and lift and/or carry up to 30 pounds.
