Job description

The Electrical Engineer will support the electrical installations and systems associated with tunnel, cavern, and surface works. This role is responsible for assisting with the design, coordination, installation, testing, troubleshooting, and documentation of electrical systems necessary to support TBM operations and overall underground construction activities. The ideal candidate will have experience in construction-related electrical systems and the ability to work closely with field operations, subcontractors, and multidisciplinary project teams.

Reports to: General Superintendent

The Electrical Engineer's key responsibilities are:

  • Support the installation, testing, commissioning, and maintenance of electrical systems for tunnel, cavern, and surface works
  • Assist with electrical systems supporting TBM operations, including temporary and permanent power distribution and associated equipment
  • Coordinate electrical installations with civil, mechanical, and field construction teams to ensure proper integration with ongoing project activities
  • Review electrical drawings, specifications, submittals, and other technical documents for accuracy, constructability, and compliance with project requirements
  • Provide technical support to field operations during excavation, ring building, cutterhead inspections, and related tunnel activities
  • Monitor electrical work in the field to ensure compliance with project specifications, applicable codes, and safety requirements
  • Troubleshoot electrical issues and support timely resolution to minimize disruption to construction progress
  • Assist with site inspections, system checks, and electrical quality control activities
  • Support installation and operation of temporary and permanent electrical infrastructure, including lighting, communications, controls, and related systems
  • Help maintain documentation related to electrical testing, inspections, field changes, and installation progress
  • Coordinate with subcontractors, vendors, and internal teams to support execution of electrical work
  • Participate in project safety planning and promote compliance with all company and site-specific safety procedures

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Electrical Engineering required
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in electrical engineering, preferably in heavy civil, underground, tunnel, or large infrastructure construction
  • Experience supporting electrical installations in active construction environments
  • Knowledge of electrical distribution systems, temporary power, lighting, communications, and control systems
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, plans, and specifications
  • Familiarity with applicable electrical codes, standards, and construction safety requirements
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with field personnel, subcontractors, and engineering teams in a fast-paced project environment
  • Familiarity with tunnel systems such as ventilation, fire alarm, Bluetooth and wifi communications or related support systems preferred
  • Prior experience on transit, infrastructure, or other heavy civil construction projects preferred

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Ability to work in both office and field environments, including active construction sites
  • Ability to walk uneven terrain, climb stairs and ladders, and access work areas in tunnels, shafts, and surface construction zones
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment at all times when in the field
