Job description

NO REMOTE OR HYBRID POSITIONS
FJ Group Accounting & Tax Inc. is seeking an experienced Business Tax Specialist to join our growing accounting firm in North Plainfield, NJ.
IMPORTANT: This is NOT an entry-level tax preparer position. We are specifically seeking candidates with substantial experience preparing and reviewing business tax returns and working directly with small business clients throughout the year.
Candidates whose experience is primarily limited to individual tax returns (Form 1040) may not be a good fit for this position.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Business Tax Specialist will manage business clients throughout the year, including bookkeeping oversight, account reconciliations, adjusting journal entries, financial statement preparation, and business tax return preparation.
The ideal candidate has experience handling S Corporations, Partnerships, and Corporations and understands how bookkeeping and tax compliance work together.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Prepare and review Forms 1120S, 1120, and 1065
• Prepare related individual returns when applicable
• Review bookkeeping records and make adjusting journal entries
• Perform account reconciliations and month-end closings
• Analyze financial statements and trial balances
• Work directly with business owners to gather information and resolve tax matters
• Identify tax planning opportunities and compliance issues
• Ensure accurate and timely filing of federal and state tax returns
• Maintain ongoing relationships with business clients throughout the year
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
• Minimum 3 years of recent experience preparing business tax returns
• Strong experience with Forms 1120S, 1120, and 1065
• Strong understanding of business accounting and bookkeeping principles
• Experience with adjusting journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statement review
• Proficiency with Drake Tax Software
• Strong knowledge of QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Online
• Ability to independently manage multiple business clients
• Reliable transportation
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
HIGHLY PREFERRED
• CPA, EA, or equivalent business tax experience
• Experience working in a CPA firm, accounting firm, or tax practice
• Spanish-speaking ability
• Experience with multi-state business tax returns
• Experience reviewing staff-prepared bookkeeping work
