What is a tax software developer?

Tax software developers are specialized software engineers who design, build, and maintain applications that assist individuals, businesses, and tax professionals with tax preparation and filing. They work on developing user-friendly interfaces, integrating tax law changes, ensuring data security, and automating complex calculations. Their role is crucial in keeping tax software accurate, compliant, and efficient for end users.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a tax software developer?

To thrive as a Tax Software Developer, you need strong programming skills (often in languages like Java, C#, or Python), a solid understanding of tax regulations, and a background in computer science or related fields. Familiarity with tax preparation software, version control systems like Git, and frameworks such as .NET or Spring Boot is typically required, and certifications in software development or taxation can be advantageous. Excellent problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication are essential soft skills for collaborating with cross-functional teams and interpreting complex tax requirements. These skills ensure the development of accurate, secure, and user-friendly tax software that complies with evolving legal standards.

What are some common challenges faced by tax software developers when integrating new tax regulations into existing systems?

Tax Software Developers often encounter challenges when adapting systems to comply with frequently changing tax laws and regulations. These updates can be complex, requiring thorough analysis to ensure that all calculations and forms remain accurate and compliant across different jurisdictions. Developers must also collaborate closely with tax experts and QA teams to interpret legal requirements correctly and test for edge cases. Balancing rapid implementation with rigorous testing is crucial to minimize errors that could impact users during tax season.

Microservices Developer (IT) | Chicago, IL (Hybrid)

At Wilson, we are here to empower every human to live like an athlete. Passion. Creativity. Integrity. Teamwork. Ambition. Innovation. These are the qualities that have made Wilson Sporting Goods Co. the number one sports equipment brand in the world. We come together to win, grow, and celebrate. We all play for Team Wilson. We all have a role to play within our organization and are working towards the same goal. One team, one dream.

We believe that being an athlete isn’t something you do, it’s who you are. It’s a universal code of conduct, a way of seeing the world and how you show up every day. We seek out diverse voices and welcome all perspectives. Our team is composed of individuals with unique backgrounds, points of view and experiences. These perspectives create a rich and diverse culture in which we learn from one another through empathy and inclusion.

Evolving the sports world and being the best partner for players, athletes, and our community is no small task. We are continually looking to add enthusiastic, ambitious, team-first individuals who desire to make a difference — and who love to help others win. Together, we will create a better world through sport. Join us.

We are currently seeking a Microservices Developer to join the Wilson IT Team. This person will help design, implement, test, and maintain solutions using a technical stack provided by Wilson and Amer Sports, based on a Serverless Framework and concept. This includes our product digital platforms (PDP) including e-commerce, PIM, DAM, Centric, Salesforce, Elastic Suite B2B portal, Cegid POS systems and the publish/subscribe messaging backbone (ASBUS). As part of the team, you will also be expected to contribute to the development of scalable, distributed systems while learning from more experienced team members as it relates to modern software architecture and development practices.

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop and maintain cloud-native microservices and APIs while collaborating with senior engineers to build scalable, reliable, and well-tested backend solutions.
  • Translate business needs into technical solutions
  • Participate in the analysis, scoping, design, and development of projects on digital platforms and associated interfaces using common design patterns (i.e. Pub/Sub, event driven, circuit breaker, etc.)
  • Write and share documentation on the produced developments and associated service level agreements
  • Review and update solutions as needed to continuously improve processes and procedures

This role requires a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field. We are seeking candidates with a minimum of 2 years of experience working with cloud development technologies and microservices architecture. Additional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Other qualifications include:

  • Experience with or knowledge of Typescript, Node.js, serverless, AWS lambda, AWS DynamoDB, MongoDB, and Angular
  • Experience working with the following concepts and methodologies: event-driven, APIs, Agile Organization, Secure by Design, and Built-In Quality
  • Experience working with a global team across multiple time zones
  • Knowledge of Java and N-tier architecture is a plus

What We’ll Provide

A reasonable estimate of the pay range is $90,000 - $115,000 per year at the time of this posting. Within the range, individual pay is determined by factors such as job-related skills, relevant experience, education, and/or training. Please note that the range details reflect the base pay only and does not include our competitive bonus program.
