Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Tax Accountant who is primarily responsible for reviewing tax returns and developing staff through mentoring and technical guidance. The Senior Tax Reviewer plays a key role in ensuring high-quality tax compliance and maintaining the firm's standards while fostering a culture of learning and continuous improvement. This position focuses on technical excellence, coaching, and collaboration rather than formal staff supervision responsibilities.
Examples of the duties
  • Review individual, corporate, partnership, business, and estate tax returns prepared by staff
  • Oversee the preparation and review of returns ranging from simple to complex to ensure accuracy and compliance
  • Prepare complex individual, corporate, and partnership tax returns as needed
  • Research tax issues and prepare technical position memos
  • Maintain current knowledge of tax law changes, accounting procedures, and emerging tax issues
  • Provide tax insights and guidance on complex scenarios to support client service and firm needs
  • Serve as a technical resource for staff by answering questions related to tax, processes, and professional development
  • Actively mentor team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and growth
  • Guide staff through both simple and complex tax scenarios to build technical competency
  • Assist in training initiatives, including presentations and internal briefings
  • Assist in developing, implementing, and monitoring tax quality control policies and procedures
  • Support consistent application of firm standards in tax return preparation and review
  • Facilitate communication of new tax developments and internal best practices
  • Contribute to delivering high-quality tax services and planning support
  • Build and maintain strong client and internal relationships
  • Participate in business development activities and relationship-building efforts

Qualifications & Characteristics
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance
  • CPA or EA (preferred or required depending on candidate; or actively pursuing credential)
  • 3-5 years of tax experience, including at least 1-2 years of tax return review experience
  • Strong technical tax knowledge, with depth in one or more industries
  • Excellent research and technical writing skills
  • Strong communication and presentation abilities
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor, teach, and develop others
  • Ability to think critically and problem-solve in complex or time-sensitive situations
  • Leadership presence, with a focus on influence and guidance rather than direct supervision
