Location: West Des Moines, IA (In Person)
Salary: $70,000–$85,000 per year
Job Type: Full-Time

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced, highly detail-oriented Tax Reviewer to join our growing firm in West Des Moines. This role is ideal for a tax professional with strong technical expertise complex business returns who thrives in a fast-paced environment and maintains exceptional organizational standards.

The Tax Reviewer will be responsible for reviewing a wide range of tax returns — from individual filings to complex partnership and corporate returns — ensuring technical accuracy, compliance, and completeness. This individual will also provide coaching and feedback to preparers while serving as a technical resource for the firm.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review individual, partnership, and corporate tax returns for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with federal and state regulations
  • Review and analyze complex business tax returns, including multi-entity and high-level transactions
  • Ensure all returns meet firm quality standards and regulatory requirements
  • Provide clear, constructive feedback and mentorship to tax preparers
  • Conduct advanced tax research and resolve complex technical tax matters
  • Assist with tax planning, audits, and special projects
  • Evaluate internal processes and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy
  • Communicate directly with clients to gather information and clarify technical matters
  • Collaborate with leadership and other departments to improve workflows and client outcomes
  • Prepare business and individual tax returns as needed

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA or MBA preferred)
  • 5+ years of progressive tax experience, including at least 3 years reviewing tax returns
  • Extensive experience handling complex business tax returns (partnerships and corporations required)
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and federal/state tax regulations
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
  • Highly organized with strong time management and prioritization skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Leadership ability with experience coaching or mentoring team members
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with Lacerte and QuickBooks (Desktop and Online) preferred
