What is a tax resolution?

A Tax Resolution job involves assisting individuals or businesses in resolving their tax issues with the IRS or state tax authorities. This can include negotiating payment plans, reducing tax debts through settlements, handling audits, and ensuring compliance with tax laws. Professionals in this field often work as tax consultants, enrolled agents, CPAs, or attorneys specializing in tax law. Their goal is to help taxpayers find the best possible resolution while minimizing penalties and financial burdens.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in tax resolution, and why are they important?

To thrive in Tax Resolution, you need strong analytical abilities, a deep understanding of tax codes and regulations, and relevant qualifications such as an Enrolled Agent (EA) designation, CPA license, or similar credentials. Proficiency with tax preparation software, IRS e-services, and case management systems is often required. Excellent communication, negotiation skills, and empathy help you effectively advocate for clients and manage stressful situations. These qualities are crucial for navigating complex tax issues and achieving positive outcomes for clients facing tax disputes or liabilities.

What are common challenges faced in a tax resolution role, and how can I prepare for them?

Professionals in Tax Resolution often encounter clients with complex financial histories, tight deadlines, and high-stress situations due to looming tax liabilities. Success in this role depends on your ability to navigate intricate tax laws, gather thorough documentation, and negotiate assertively with tax authorities such as the IRS. You'll also need to manage multiple cases simultaneously, which requires strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Preparing by understanding the latest tax regulations, building experience with tax software, and sharpening your client communication skills will help you overcome these challenges and build trust with those you represent.

URGENT OPPORTUNITY - IMMEDIATE FILL

If you have been waiting for the right move, this is it - do not let this one pass you by.

Why This Role Is Different

Most tax resolution roles put you in a grind - high caseloads, little support, and a culture that treats overtime as the baseline. This one is different.

Our client is a high-growth, "Locally-Owned" SMB CPA and advisory firm that has posted 35-45% year-over-year growth for six consecutive years. They have built something genuinely rare: a firm where busy season stays under 45-50 hours per week, turnover runs below 8% in an industry averaging 18-22%, and the culture actually walks the walk on family and work-life balance.

They are growing fast and need a Tax Resolution Specialist who can hit the ground running and make an immediate impact.

About the Firm

This is a well-established CPA and advisory firm with a loyal and growing client base. Over the past six years, they have consistently grown 35-45% year over year while maintaining a culture that most firms only talk about:

• Turnover under 8% - roughly one-quarter of the industry average

• Busy season capped at under 50 hours per week for their professionals

• Family is a genuine priority, not a tagline

• 100% employer-paid benefits, 401(k), and unlimited PTO

• Compensation that has consistently been at or above market

People stay here. That does not happen by accident.

The Role

As the Tax Resolution Specialist, you will be the firm's dedicated expert for tax controversy, collections, and IRS and state resolution matters. This is a high-autonomy, high-impact role for someone who knows this space well and is ready to own it.

You will:

• Represent individual and business entity clients before the IRS and state taxing authorities

• Negotiate Offers in Compromise (OICs), installment agreements, and penalty abatements

• Handle voluntary disclosure matters at federal and state levels

• Analyze complex tax liabilities and develop tailored resolution strategies

• Advise clients on options, timelines, and risks with clarity and confidence

• Navigate CDP hearings, trust fund recovery matters, and collection due process procedures

• Collaborate with the firm's compliance and planning teams for holistic client service

• Stay current on IRS collections procedures, CSED rules, and evolving state requirements

What You Bring

Required:

• Active EA, CPA, or JD licensure - required for IRS representation

• 5-10+ years of experience in tax resolution, controversy, or collections

• Hands-on experience negotiating OICs and installment agreements

• Strong working knowledge of IRS collections process, IRM procedures, and CSED calculations

• Experience representing both individual (1040) and entity (1120/1065/etc.) clients

• Excellent written and verbal communication - you can clearly explain complex issues to stressed clients

• Self-directed and organized - you can manage a caseload remotely with minimal hand-holding

Preferred:

• Multi-state resolution and voluntary disclosure program experience

• Background in a CPA firm, tax advisory, or boutique resolution practice

• Familiarity with tax software platforms commonly used in CPA environments

Compensation and Benefits

• Base Salary: $80,000-$130,000, depending on experience and level

• Benefits: 100% employer-paid medical, dental, and vision

• Retirement: 401(k) plan

• Time Off: Unlimited PTO

• Location: Fully remote - work from anywhere in the United States

The Bottom Line

If you are a tax resolution professional who is tired of the chaos, the burnout, and firms that talk a good game but do not deliver - this is a different kind of opportunity. The growth is real. The culture is real. The benefits and compensation are competitive. And the need is urgent.

This is the move. Apply now.

To be considered, submit your resume and a brief note about your resolution experience. Qualified candidates will be contacted promptly.
