Job description

Position Summary

Provide leadership to the project team upon award of a contract including managing all aspects of a project's design with Owners, Engineers, and Architects as required. Requires necessary financial and risk management reporting to internal management and the necessary business acuity to protect Southland Engineering's interests while maintaining positive client relationships. 

Position Details

Client and Contract 

  • Develop and maintain continuous positive relationships with internal and external Clients and their representatives. 
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of the Owner contract and client Master Service Agreements 
  • Accountable for managing the overall execution of the Contract 
  • Closely monitors scope changes.  Communicates impact of changes (costs, schedule) to client in a timely manner.  

Project Execution 

  • Provide leadership to the project team upon award of a Contract.  
  • Responsible for ensuring all applicable corporate procedures and tools are followed / used on the project. 
  • Responsible for creating the project specific execution plan communicating the content with the team. This includes making updates as project conditions and requirements change. 
  • Clearly understands and communicates baseline scope of work to project team.  Keeps team updated as necessary with approved change orders.  
  • Owns manages, updates and communicates the project design schedule to the project team.  Ensures adequate time is allowed in schedule for QA and client review cycles to be properly conducted.  
  • Identifies and escalates potential project risks to the Managing Principal. 

Project Controls 

  • Works with Project Accounting to ensure budgets, forecasts, billings and accounts receivable are updated in COINS. 
  • Prepares required project status documents and leads discussion during monthly review meetings to include financial forecasts, revenue and margin projections, staffing projections, client relationship status and project overall status 

Qualifications 

  • B.S. in Architecture, Engineering, or Construction Management with 4-5 years of relevant experience. 
  • Excellent knowledge of project controls including but not limited to the following: 
  • Effectively monitoring the change management process. 
  • Develop engineering fee cost estimates with input from the respective discipline leadership 
  • Develop, monitor and manage project design schedules 
  • Develop, monitor and manage accurate project forecasts (manpower and cost) 
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management.  
  • Ability to communicate effectively with general contractors/clients while exhibiting company core values. 
  • Ability to read and fully understand construction documents of all trades. 
  • Competent with general business writing and public speaking. 
  • Competent in basic computer skills to include Microsoft Office products (specifically Word, Excel, etc.) 
  • Strong knowledge of engineering industry. 
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. 
  • Knowledge of Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) and Lean Project Delivery methods preferred.
