Overview

The Tax Manager will manage Renasant's tax function (including overseeing the outsourced tax provision and tax compliance functions) and serve as an internal consultant to assist both finance and operations professionals with income tax-related issues. The Tax Manager will proactively identify opportunities for tax savings, as well as work to seek out and mitigate risks in Renasant's tax posture.

Responsibilities

Tax provision and compliance:

    Lead review of the quarterly and annual income tax provision
  • Support federal and state income tax compliance processes, including coordination with external advisors
  • Prepare and review tax workpapers and supporting documentation
  • Prepare and review documentation for our external auditors and SOX compliance
  • Partner with accounting and finance teams to ensure accurate tax reporting
  • Assist with implementation of process improvements and internal control enhancements within the tax function

Internal consulting and tax planning:

  • Proactively identify opportunities to reduce Renasant's tax expense
  • Assist with tax credit investing
  • Help various internal stakeholders with various tax issues, including pricing and reviewing tax-exempt lending, reviewing transaction agreements, and forecasting tax expense
  • Explaining tax concepts to non-tax professionals, and presenting quarterly results to management
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
  • Minimum of 4 years of public accounting experience
  • CPA or CPA-eligible with plan to obtain certification
  • Solid understanding of ASC 740 and income tax compliance
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge and up-to-date understanding of US GAAP and tax regulations
  • Familiarity with income tax controls under Sarbanes-Oxley ("SOX")
  • Familiarity with common income tax provision software, preferably including OneSource Tax Provision
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate across teams
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and data integrity
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
