What is a tax contractor?

A Tax Contractor is an independent professional who provides tax-related services to individuals or businesses. They handle tax preparation, filing, compliance, and sometimes advisory services, depending on their expertise. Unlike full-time employees, tax contractors work on a contractual basis and may serve multiple clients. They must stay updated on tax laws and regulations to ensure accurate and compliant filings. Many tax contractors have certifications like CPA or EA, though requirements vary by jurisdiction.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a tax contractor?

A Tax Contractor needs strong knowledge of tax laws, accounting principles, and excellent analytical skills, often supported by a degree in accounting or finance and experience in tax preparation. Familiarity with tax preparation software (such as QuickBooks, Xero, or TurboTax) and often credentials like an Enrolled Agent (EA) or CPA certification are important. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication with clients are standout soft skills for this role. Mastery of these skills helps ensure accurate tax filings, regulatory compliance, and high client satisfaction.

What are the typical work arrangements and client interactions like for tax contractors?

Tax Contractors often enjoy flexible work arrangements, such as remote work, part-time schedules, or seasonal contracts, especially during tax season. They usually interact directly with a variety of clients, including individuals and businesses, to gather financial information, answer tax-related questions, and provide guidance on deductions and compliance. Effective communication and the ability to build client trust are crucial, as contractors often act as the first point of contact for sensitive financial matters. Collaboration with other accounting professionals, such as auditors or financial advisors, is also common depending on the client's needs.

  • Document test hypotheses, results and recommended next steps.
  • Identify and evaluate relevant new Google Ads features, campaign types and tactics that may improve performance.

Performance Creative
  • Develop performance-oriented ad concepts, hooks, messaging angles and creative hypotheses informed by campaign results and consumer behavior.
  • Provide creative briefs and direction for agreed-upon concepts that the Harvest Hosts creative team can execute.
  • Review creative performance and recommend iterations based on results.

Performance Analysis and Monthly Reporting
  • Use platform data, Northbeam and other available measurement tools to evaluate campaign performance.
  • Provide one brief monthly performance report summarizing results, major optimizations completed, test results, key learnings and recommended next actions.
  • Flag material performance changes or opportunities requiring company input.

Additional Projects
Additional paid media projects may be mutually agreed upon in writing and added to the scope as needed.
Experience and Qualifications
  • 5-8+ years of experience in performance marketing, digital acquisition or paid media management.
  • Deep hands-on expertise in Google Ads, particularly Search, Performance Max, Demand Gen and YouTube.
  • Proven experience scaling paid media while managing toward CPA, revenue and efficiency goals.
  • Strong understanding of attribution, conversion tracking, testing methodology and performance measurement.
  • Strong performance creative instincts and experience translating campaign insights into effective ad concepts and briefs.
  • Experience using analytics and attribution tools such as Northbeam, Triple Whale, GA4 or similar platforms.
  • Highly analytical, detail-oriented and able to operate independently.
  • Experience with Meta Ads or additional paid channels is a plus.
Engagement Structure
  • Type: Remote, independent contractor (1099) engagement.
  • Hours: Part time scope based on agreed services and deliverables.
  • Duration: Initial contract term for 2 months, with option to renew based on quality of work and business needs
  • Contractor will provide their own tools and equipment and is responsible for all applicable taxes.
  • Contractor retains discretion over the manner, method, timing and location of performing the services, subject to agreed deadlines and business requirements.
  • Contractor may provide services to other clients, subject to confidentiality and conflict-of-interest obligations.
  • Compensation will be structured as an agreed contractor service fee based on experience and final scope.
