Sous Chef - Hop Valley Brewing

Position Overview

Hop Valley Brewing is looking for a motivated, organized, and hands-on Sous Chef to help lead our kitchen team in a fast-paced, high-volume environment. The Sous Chef works directly alongside the Executive Chef and management team to ensure food quality, consistency, cleanliness, organization, and strong kitchen culture on a daily basis. We are looking for someone who leads by example, communicates effectively, thrives under pressure, and takes pride in creating a positive and efficient kitchen environment.

Responsibilities & Daily Tasks

Kitchen Operations

  • Assist with daily kitchen operations and service execution
  • Lead line during service while maintaining ticket times and food quality
  • Ensure all food is prepared and plated consistently to recipe standards
  • Support prep production and station organization
  • Help maintain smooth communication between front and back of house
  • Assist with opening and closing kitchen duties
  • Monitor product levels and communicate inventory needs
  • Ensure proper food rotation, labeling, and storage procedures

Leadership & Team Development

  • Help supervise and support kitchen staff during shifts
  • Coach and train line cooks, prep cooks, and dish staff
  • Hold team members accountable to cleanliness, organization, and professionalism standards
  • Foster a respectful, team-oriented work environment
  • Assist with onboarding and training new kitchen employees
  • Help maintain morale and professionalism during high-volume shifts

Food Safety & Cleanliness

  • Enforce food safety and sanitation standards at all times

  • Maintain a clean and organized kitchen throughout shifts
  • Verify completion of cleaning lists and side work
  • Monitor equipment cleanliness and report maintenance concerns

Inventory & Cost Control

  • Assist with inventory management and ordering

  • Monitor portioning and recipe consistency
  • Support proper receiving and storage of deliveries

Collaboration

  • Work closely with Executive Chef and management team on menu execution and kitchen performance
  • Assist with specials, menu development, and seasonal features
  • Support brewery events, promotions, and large-volume service days
